Well the good news is a lot of the car makers are putting some effort in creating the next big sports car that's affordable... even kia is trying to jump in with the stinger... 315hp rwd 4 cylinder turbo. Toyota is showcasing the ft1 and talk of upping thee frs to a more 370z ballgame for power and performance with a 300 plus Hp engine and lightweight....quality

This is good news for us consumers as now they have competition pushing them to up their game or they will be out of the rat race.

I am hoping for another era like the 90s which had a plethora of amazing affordable performance cars to choose from.

Hmm... I've been wondering...

Nissan has been putting the IDx on the table, off the table, then on the table for awhile now. If it happens, we're looking at 2018 at the earliest. The car is supposed to be at or under $30,000.

We now have the next generation Z, which at the earliest would be 2016... Nissan could probably afford to have it slip to 2017, since their trying to milk the new NISMO for the last remaining drops.

On top of all that, there's the future GT-R.

So that means Nissan will have THREE sports car lines. Others have been telling me, it's unusual for that many to be supported at once: especially in today's market.

If the IDx does happen, wouldn't Nissan be competing with itself if the new Z was also in the 30K range? I thought that was something companies didn't like. Why would Nissan have a $30,000 Z series and $30,000 IDx series? Wouldn't it be one or the other?

Either the new Z is moving to a different price bracket, or the IDx will be the more expensive brand.

except that the 30k mark is what nissan is trying to keep the iDX under, the reason the iDX has been having trouble getting approved by nissan corporate is that they didnt have an existing platform that could support it, but with the talk now of it sharing the next gen Z's platform it now has one which will make it considerably less expensive to produce. nissan has always had the iDX aimed squarely at taking on the toyota/subaru twins including in the pricing department. the whole $30k figure came about only because nissan was quoted as saying that with the iDX they would have trouble keeping the price under 30k as they would have to invest in creating a chassis for it, but as has been said, that is now solved by them using the next gen Z chassis for the iDX as well. i could very well see the iDX being their new entry level sports car and then having the Z be the in between with the GT-R being their top of the line.

So the IDx is going to look -- or at least have the same shape -- as the new Z? The IDx is a poor man's Z?

The IDx is going to be cheaper, because those getting the new Z, will be paying the difference? Robbing from Peter to pay Paul?

Yep Toyota is planning to do the same thing. 3 sports cars.
Scion frs I with a 4 cylinder turbo at around 30
Toyota supra with a possible 6 cylinder turbo
A yaris type hatch with a 4 cylinder turbo. Will be a gti type car. OR fiesta type.

Like in said the sports car market will be saturated soon which is good for us likening the 90s.

Mazda has talk of a rx7 successor. Honda talks of a sports car. Kim bringing in the stinger. Ford offering 4 cylinder turbo. V6 an don't v8 platform.
Even lotus elise is supposed to be around 55k with a 320hp 4 cylinder turbo only weighing 2400 pounds.

I'm looking at my next car to be under 60k but pack one heck of a performance package. My eyes are on the Lotus elise or Toyota supra aka Ft1.
Unless the new z is amazing I'm moving on to a new brand after 10 years of Z's

mazda has rumors every year about the rx7 returning. Ill believe it when I see it, and didn't kia cancel their sports car?. Honda was working on a s2k successor but I guess thats a false rumor as well since they haven't said anything. The only vehicles I am looking forward to now is the new mazda thats being unveiled on Wednesday, And the new EVO X SAM with more power sometime next year.
