As for the strange sensation I have no new guesses other than what the other guys have said. Have you considered trying a few launches at different (lower) rpms to see if you can recreate it without as much power (and without as much chance to hurt something)? Edit: Or maybe trying a 2500 rpm launch with the VDC still on to see if it is the same sensation as before.

It's his car, he can drive it anyway he chooses. If he blows it up, maybe we will be lucky enough to hear how and it will give us even more information about the cars we all love.
