A totally crap design to say the least.

I need to find some really good, really strong extra thick automotive tape so I can use only one layer and be done with it, and use that 3M adhesive promoter on it..........blah, blah, blah.......

This is what you need. In your situation, tape wouldn't do much because of how the part cured. You need silicone adhesive + clamps. I think mine was made by Sika.
