To the OP, if you can swing it financially, get a Z already!

A few things come to mind...
Why not have the SUV be the family car and the Z your car for work and going out with your wife on date night (something that all married couples should do, date night). If you must trade in the SUV and take a loss, so what. Of course, I'd get rid of the Mazda. In the big picture, $5k is not a huge amount of money, particularly when matched with one's happiness.

You're trying to negotiate the monthly payment to be lower by only $59 each month?! Granted, money is money, but $59 a month. Whatever.

BTW, there must be more to this story since your wife "won't budge".

Yea..grow a pair.....If you let her handle the money then you are a fool....First off let me say nowhere...and I mean nowhere does it say anywhere that the guy has to give his wife the paycheck or let her handle the financial responsibilities in a marriage.

When I got married 14 years ago my wife said she would take care of being the bill payment maker in the household. I told her that I was perfectly capable of doing that job myself. I told her in no uncertain terms that I was NOT going to be handing her my paychecks as I earned and I will pay the household bills. I then turned around and also stated that I expect to receive from her every paycheck of hers that fraction of money out of each of her paychecks relative to our respective earnings.

When I bought the 1997 Cobra Mustang she didn't say anything. A year later I bought her a new van she wanted. After two years she began make noise about the Cobra. I eventually sold it ti shut her mouth up. I bought an XTerra at that time. After 3 years in the XTerra I saw the new (at that time) 2003 Mustang Cobra with the stock blower. I mentioned it to her and she said "NO". I turned right around that next weekend and went out and traded the XTerra and bought the 2003 Cobra Mustang and laid $4000 down.

I brought it home and she blew her top. I proceded to to her that the first time she bitched, moaned and groaned over the 1997 Cobra, I got rid of it much to my consternation. I said that I didn't want to hear a damn thing about the 2003 Cobra because if she does this time she is the one whom I am going to put out the door.

She said I wouldn't dare...and I came right back and said watch me. I then told her that I raised 5 kids of hers without an ounce of child support coming in from her ex. I also stated that I had a new 2000 sq-foot house built for us and all new furniture for the entire new house. I have made sure that all bills have been paid and food on the table. And I am the one that bought her a 2006 XTerra to replaced the aged van. And I was able to do all that by working my damn *** off since the day we got married.

I then told her there will never be a day in this marriage where she will ever say to me again NO when I want something for myself because I sure as hell earned every damn penny of it and then some.

She made some grumbles when I bought my 370Z but all I said to her was remember what I told you several years ago...I reminder her to not even make the mistake of thinking I wouldn't put her out.

My paycheck is my money...I worked for it...I earned it....I'm the one that paid for my entire college and graduated with a degree so I could make better money back in the 70's while she was out spreading her legs and having 5 kids by 2 other men - the kids I all ended up raising in those 14 years. So I'm the one who is going to control how it gets spent....because I did my g-damn time!!!!

Holy cow, I guess I am lucky. I have had 5 Z's and my wife liked all of them. I bought the 370Z on a whim after seeing the commercials during football last year, and all she said was "get it if you want it" even though it was her turn to get a new car. She was the one against selling the 300ZXTT the few times I thought about it. I do make 5 times what she does, but we share everything and take turns with big things like cars, etc... All of that and she never even drives the Z's. She drives a 99 4Runner that we bought new but is looking to get another SUV soon.

think I will tell her how much I appreciate her today!!

edit: I forgot, she wasn't around for Z #1.

No Kidding. I feel very lucky to have such a great wife. I had a 03 350Z and my wife said, "do you like that new Z?" I said ofcourse and she said can we afford for you to get it? I said, probably. And she said "then lets get it but i get to pick the colors"

My wife drives an 07 Mazda 3, i sold my 350Z privately and pre-ordered the 370Z. Waited 3 months for it to come.

Here is where the deal stands. My youngest brother David was an accountant with a car dealer. He says McCarthy Nissan is giving me no break on the price but charging sticker. He says I should wait about a month. Either the car will be sold or it will not. If the former, wait until next year and buy the 2010 model. If the latter, they will call me knowing that sportscars often don't sell well in the fall in the Midwest. Second, I talked with my wife about this at length. I have been through one divorce (my ex ran off with someone else and the gold digger taught me the meaning of Jerry Reed's song, She got the Goldmine..). It is better to win her over. I told her the decision was mine, stated my reasons, and she said okay. She asked me to wait my brother's "one month." I failed to mention two other concerns. This car would have to be my daily driver. Winters in Missouri are nothing compared to Maryland where I used to live. But, we might have 6 to 12 days in which I might have to drive to work in snow (I'm a teacher and we get some snow days off). Does this change the equation for anyone? This is a gamble somewhat, but now the choice is back to being mine. I hope to join the club in some 30 days...
