I wonder....which AT owners can actually drive a manual...

Not that it matters but I'm sure there are tons that cannot, but say they can. This is the interwebs afterall.

b15- so wat you're really saying is that one's not a car enthusiast unless they can truely DRIVE a MT car.

haha no no no. I'm just wondering who can actually drive a manual and actually test drove one. OR if they just bought the AT by default. Obviously there's no way to prove it, but whatever.

I knew a guy that proclaimed to know how to drive manual (and all the associated techniques), but he never owned any manual cars and in the 3 years I knew him, I never saw him drive an MT. So finally a buddy and I put him behind the wheel of a 5MT accord (VERY easy to drive). After much teasing, he finally got in and he couldn't make it down the street....

Rational: when drinking and 'should not drive' that leaves my fiance at the wheel who cannot drive a MT. I have been stuck places many times with a car that we cannot drive to get home. Very frustrating.

So now all I buy is AT so she can drive when Im not able too.

Also, I'm not sure if I would ever buy an MT again. My modded out ZR thus far has been far superior then many coupe MT on the dyno with the mods that I have.

Dont get me wrong- driving a MT is fun for a few minutes. It gives you that race car feel for sure. But Atlanta traffic and long distances I would rather have a AT.

just my .02

you do wat you need to do. my 3 cars are all MT and dd is MT. i personally think MT is easier to drive in congestion vs AT.

I've had my share of each. When I was shopping the 370 for almost a year before I purchased I test drove nothing but the MT. But traffic here is so horrendous I couldn't fathom actually buying one. And I wasn't impressed with it so I never pulled the trigger. Then one cool March evening last year I waltzed in to the dealer again. They had a few ATs on the lot. Sales guy convinced me to at least try it. So I did. And I signed the papers an hour later. No real regrets. Just wish it didn't sound like an auto. At least it still kicks ***.

I would think that someone who does not have any interest in learing to drive standard would not buy sport cars.
they buy kia and hyundai.

Personally I had a choice between a black base sport MT and a white touring AT, which I think would make anybody have seconds thoughts at least for a second, but ultimately I bought the car that I wouldn't normally have.

I drove a 6MT car (a '99 WS-6 TransAm!) for a decade before I picked up my 7AT 370. I'm probably a little rusty now because I haven't owned a manual car for about 5 years, although once in a blue moon I do get to drive someone's manual Jeep or something randomly.

I don't mind a normal auto in something like my tow-truck, but I could never drive a sportscar that didn't let me pick gears explicitly. There's little point in that. However, the 7AT really does let you drive it like a manual in M-mode. The only real difference from that sort of perspective is not having to mess with the clutch pedal, which is really just another nice convenience over the one you 6MT guys already get compared to a "real" manual: SRM.

I'll give you 7AT-haters a lot more credit if you permanently disable the SRM on your car first

Learned on MT. Still have my S2k. I've ridden motorcycles since I was young and fly complex aircraft. So what are your credentials?
