I troll those FRS forums quite a bit. The owners, well they are enthusiastic to say the least. Most think their car is Gods answer to 4 wheel transportation and nothing is better. I embellish but just a bit. Not that the Z is the end all either. There are much better cars out there. I just cant afford them, lol. Needless to say, I test drove a few, thrashed the hell out of them, drove one at Sebring. Are they fun to throw around? Yep? Is the Z fun to throw around? Is the Z faster by a huge margin in every possible way? Yep. Yep. With about $3000 price difference from a Z, that GT86 platform is woe-fully bad. The GT86 is a teenagers car, impossible to take serious. And if youre worried about gas..what, $30, $40-$50 a month difference, dont come looking at Z's. On a side note my wifes Volvo S60 destroys the FRS in a straight line, its hilarious.
Edit: Heres a quote from one of their members...tell me whats wrong. "Isn't an E92 M3 more of a muscle car? The BRZ should be closer in characteristics to an E30 (a chassis experience)." Last edited by Firebase99; 03-14-2014 at 05:40 AM. |

![]() Isn't this thread kind of doing the same thing as the one over there? I've got no problems with the FRS/BRZ. It's pushing automakers to make more lightwieght rwd cars. How is that a bad thing? Would I buy one? Sure, in a few years when you can get a solid used one for under $15k. It would be a fun little daily driver that gets good gas mileage and is fun to drive within the speed limit. Would I buy one new for $27k? Hell no.

A Miata with similar equipment comes in around the same price, and it's down 30+hp. In hindsight, the 1994 240sx (a car I think the BRZ is very close to in terms of features and driving dynamics, although it only had 155hp) cost $21,789 MSRP not adjusted for inflation and currency. I don't think the BRZ is as egregiously mispriced as most. I can see why someone would pay $27k for one, I just wouldn't do it.

yah, i hear toyota even dropped subaru due to the mis-calculated drivetrain cost on the brz/frs. was suppose to be like a max $25K otd car. some sort of nasty divorse going on in the background.

Actually Test drove a FR-S before test driving my Z and there is a world of difference. I wouldn't trade 370 for FR-S. IMO it reminded me of my other car I own (06 RSX-S) except just RWD meaning I didn't feel like it was a upgrade. The only things IMO I can give FR-S over Z is it has backseats (even if virtually unusable lol) and I do like how FR-S looks overall slightly more. But Again it's soooo underpowered. But that's just my 2 cents.
