have you driven on 08-09 STI? Subaru changed the characteristics of the car to be more subdued; part of that whole image change they are trying to do to allure a more general audience. Anyway, the 08 STI doesn't feel like the previous gens. I mean my old 06 WRX felt nearly as fast at the 08 STI I test drove. Compared to the 06 and 05 STI's I've test driven which actually feel like you are going fast.

As for the huge hit in the 08 STI price, I think a lot has to do with the hatch style and low performance of the car. Overall the 08 STI just hasn't been doing well, even in the subaru community. It's not was raw as the previous gens and is slightly slower in acceleration. It's no surprise that they aren't holding their value. My 06 WRX only lost about 3k in depreciation. Paid 24k for it and got 21k out of it. The older gen Subys hold their value much better than these newer ones and I think a lot has to due with the new style that subaru is trying out. I for one did cross shop the STI to the 370z and the 370z won hands down no contest for various reasons. Still, I miss AWD

maybe he forgot to switch on "crazy" mode on his STi. The newer models should feel just as fast as the older models if not faster, minus the handling of the previous ones of course because they neutered the car's suspension.
