Dude, that's because they're trying to get a rotary to not break. Once they figure that out, we'll get a new RX7. :rofl2:

I read a few months ago that Mazda wasn't able to make the Wankle feasible in the long term for purely gasoline use. It pretty much put the nail in the coffin for a new RX-7. A new sports car isn't out of the question, but chances are, it won't be a rotary.

Not a shock there. It's either naturally aspirated and gets bad gas mileage with mediocre reliability and no power, or turboed and blows up if you look at it funny.

Was Mazda ever considering putting a V8 in a new RX-7?

Next Z to be unveiled in 2013 Tokyo auto show.

What would be nice in the new Z, is a 3L v8 with a super short stroke with a red line of about 12.5 or so...

Or they could just twin turbo the current engine... Then they would be back in the same play ground as the larger displacement cars.

Less than four weeks away from the Detroit show. Now we have a specific date and time for when we will get more information right from the horse's mouth.

NAIS Press Conference Schedule (scroll to bottom)

If I don't see something game changing at this one then I will save up for a few more years and get an Exige S.

 for Exige S. I think it wouldn't make a good daily driver though. My friends neighbor has one and if you think the cabin noise in the Z is bad, the Exige S is a lot worse. Great Track car though, and I love the exhaust note.

Since they left us out to dry in the Tokyo Auto Show with the IDx concept, we better be amazed by the new Z.

I would like to see a high-revving, small displacement V8 in the new Z. Of course that's not going to happen. As impressive as the GTR and 370Z are, I'm so tired of looking at 'em. A refresh is definitely in order.

I just checked nissannews.com and no announcement so it's 0% confirmed. :tiphat:

next gen

well last months was a let down for the car that was "supposed" to show up, so yes hopefully the new Z arrived at Detroit, but also I think Nissan should be releasing the new Maxima and Murano soon, don't know if they'd do more than one major reveal per show? Who knows...
Looking forward to the Inifinti Q50 Aue Rouge concept and I can't say I know for sure, but we all know that Benz/Infiniti are going to be sharing engines and platforms, and we know the new C-class C400 has a twin turbo 6 with 330hp/360tq ... I would venture to say that a educated guess would be expect this 3.0 ltr (can't say I've read V6 or inline 6 though, I assume V6 but the insider news indicate a inline 6 is again in the drawing board for Benz eventually) to be in the Infiniti concept and would make sense to drop this into the new Z as well...
I'm sure Benz will have a 3.0 base motor and probably a higher displacement version too (in the 400hp range)... I'd say 400hp in the Infiniti but only the 330hp version for the Z with the higher one for a Nismo version..
Anyway just guessing but if you follow the industry you notice trends and what happens out there usually follows these trends... This just feels like a likely outcome
