Looks like we will see the next gen Z next year instead of a year later than expected. Nissan is way more prepared than they let on, as usual. Can't wait for the Tokyo auto show.:excited:

I'm in if they get it right. Electric motors have all of their torque available from 0 rpm. Smaller probably means lighter as well. A turbo four could be interesting, especially if it's under 3000 lbs. I don't get how people can say no to something we know nothing concrete about.

Any new Z is better than no new Z. The brand must live on. There is nothing wrong with owning one of the classics! I'm proud of my Z34 and will probably be buried in it. Ten years from now, it will be neat to show up to meets in a well-maintained 15 year-old car.

Very true. If they don't get the sales up, they'll kill the Z. It wouldn't be the first time. At the rate I buy new cars, I'll be looking again sometime in 2021. I still need the daily driver, but it's too much fun to drive the Z every day.

Chuck, I'm with you. While mine doesn't have all the cool stuff yours does, I still enjoy driving it on a daily basis. I can't see owning a car and leaving it in the garage, only to be driven on the weekends when the sun is out. :driving:

I wouldn't mind a daily driver for rainy days and running errands where I need to buy more than two loaves of bread, though. I might need to pick up a $1500 Craigslist beater truck and $49/mo liability only insurance.

It could cost $1000, weigh 1000 lbs, make 1000hp and have an attachment to fondle your balls while you drive and someone here would still bitch about it.

An electric version of a Z vs one model that's electric are two different things..... I choose to look at the positives like 2900lb chassis and possible FI FOR NOW... That sounds good to me.

Not enough info out there on performance to start complaining so early. I just want to see what Nissan is going to offer first before I start complaining about rumors and currently non existent tech.

I thought the show was this year in November?

The Z for most in this forum is a vanity purchase though. That's why our forum is structured with this type of nitpicking and ridiculousness. We have the cake and eat it too crowd.

Oh that explains it! I wondered why it was so important to me that my Z color matched my Coach purse.

Wow. I thought we'd have to wait until 2016! I'm pretty excited. At least I'll know in a month whether or not to hold out for it or get something else. Could be good though! I have a feeling that if they go with a hybrid variant it'll likely utilize the same components or something optimized for a smaller Z platform that would come from the latest Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. I'm pretty sure they'll be aiming for that 300hp mark so I wouldn't get too upset over specs until they're released. But if they drop the ball they know that'll be the end of the Z.

I'm sure they're going to take aim at the proposed next-gen Supra. The Z MUST be able to perform to take on anything else coming out in 2015/2016 including the Challenger replacement, the Cuda (which honestly has caught even my domestic vehicle hating attention) or it'll be toast.

electric sounds weird to me. I wouldn't be opposed to a turbo 4 though. Can't wait to see how it looks mostly. Definitely something I'm tentatively thinking about for the future.

If it's a turbo i4, I wonder if it's an AMG variant of the 2.0L turbo i4. My dad picked up the new CLA last week. I've not driven it yet, but the build quality pretty nicely for the price. Heck, the loaded Z's are surpassing $40k.

CLA 45 is sweet according to motor trend it goes 12.7 quarter mile blows away our stock z. I would love to have one as a dd.

I think it needs to have more power to keep up with the competition. Hopefully they don't pull a BRZ move and make it aesthetically nice but slow :shakes head:

A hybrid electric Z won't be lighter, damn battery pack is a boat anchor. I'm all for hybrid tech, but maybe not for better mileage, maybe for just boosting acceleration temporarily. I'm sure they can harness enough energy from the big f'ing flywheels they like to put on. Just some thoughts.

why doesnt nissan just bring back the 240sx for a little bit and hibernate the Z for awhile, if their purpose is down size the engine? Then after a few years come back with a turbo charged 6 cylinder engine Z? for the 50th anniversary Z? thats exactly what they did with the z32.

Down gradding the Z to a 4 cylinder engine or electric just isnt a "Z Car" anymore in my opinion.

2900lbs i4 turbo Z could be a sweet deal..

also until some solid progress is made in the battery industry the sports cars should stay away or at least keep the battery potential minimal (like the porsche 918 spyder)

They go back to roots produce a 240z with i4 turbo with current auto standards in eng \mech technology.

There won't be anything electric about the new Z because of weight and price target. i4 turbo, lighter, and just slightly faster than the current car for 5% more money.

my guess is they saw how well that crappy built but TONS of fun to drive 86, frs, and brz sold and nissan said to themselves "I want some of that" hopefully they dont try to pull a sub 20k car to compete. The Z car may not be the fastest on the street, but one thing they have ALWAYS had is good build quality and reliability which jacks the price up a bit. turbo 4? ok, im down with that as i have a subaru wrx so im well aquainted. electric? GFYS nissan. maybe in 30 years when they have perfected it. but now? batteries are ****, that thing will last all of 5 years, as 99% of electric cars from all manufactures are already proving. they are heavy, expensive, complicated, and dont last as long as the cars they are put into. extra torque or not, if they so much as touch the next round of Z cars with an electric motor I will just buy an M series BMW or something.

I drove a BRZ and boy was it fun. but upon inspection....... its built like you would expect a sub 20k car to be built..... like a piece of ****, especially interior quality. and, of the 2.5 "scion being the .5 pretend company" companies that build it, the subaru BRZ would be the one you would expect to be the better version if there are any differences at all. I hope..... no PRAY nissan isnt going that route seeing an opportunity to just make some cash off of unsuspecting lemmings. hell mazda and mini have been doing that for years, ever drive an MX5? its a damn blast! would I ever own one? not in a million years. no one gives them any attention, and act like OMG HANDLINGZ!!! is some kind of brand new concept invented by the frs,brz,86 in 2013....

i heard they r showing GTR Nismo the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 around 570 hp next month also! Nissan should at least offer TT as an option for Z

Its to expensive and complex to turbo the z from factory and have worthwhile gains while retaining a warranty on the car. It would be a little dinky *** turbo giving probably 40-50 horses and would still make the car 5000+ more expensive. Look how much more the TT 300zx gen 2 cost than its non turbo brother. And it didnt really make TONS more power.

if this car goes smaller,lighter and with an elec motor to get the extra power it will be dirty.

I would bet money on it.

u guys are missing one point in reguards to electric car, they have no soul.

I think it would take this to get me to go electric or magnetic....
