Try freezing it with cold spray. The old dry cleaning liquid use to be the cats a$$ for getting gum out but I don't think you can get it any more.

"ice cube and the hair dryer!

For the initial removal, you can either freeze the gum hard by applying ice cubes for 15-20 minutes and then breaking off as much as possible, or you can heat it just enough to be nicely pliable, and pull it from the carpet with the help of a plastic bag.

The gum will adhere to the plastic and be pulled up with it, but be ready to catch any strings that break away in the process.

Once you have cleaned out the bulk of the gum, you can use a commercial preparation such as Goo Gone to get out the rest. Apply a small amount and rub in with an old butter knife or spoon.

Solutions like this tend to break the gum up into tiny pieces or crumbs that can then be picked out and vacuumed up.

An alternative method is to use one of the muscle pain treatments like Ben-Gay, which contain methyl salicylate. Rub a small dab on the gum, and then use a cloth or plastic bag to pull it out, as you did when heating the first mass of the gum.

Whatever you use to remove the gum, the area of the carpet should be washed immediately.

Try a little dish detergent in a cup of warm water. Rinse the area, then pat dry.

Of course, if you were planning on cleaning the carpet anyway, a steam cleaner works just great."

Barefoot Lass's Carpet Stain Removal Page!

"Anne Bass from Tacoma Washington, writes; "I was told years ago by a carpet cleaner to use peanut-butter to take gum out of the carpet. Once he showed me, I was a believer. Just put a spoon of peanut-butter on the gum. Use the spoon to mix it into the gum and then let it sit for just a couple minutes. Then rub with the spoon to loosen it. Take a wet rag and wipe it up in sort of a picking motion. Next take a rag and wash the spot. This really works!" Thanks Anne! This next tip was sent in anonymously; "This is a tip for removing ground on gum from carpet. Soak with WD-40 and rub with a cloth. This may take a couple of applications depending on how much gum. The WD-40 breaks down the gum somehow. The first time I tried it I was amazed. I had been trying to remove the gum for 6 months and it took me 10 minutes with the WD-40!" Thanks for the super Tip! Angela from Kentucky writes; "I clean rental property and do the carpets too. They used to replace carpet that had gum and wax on them. I tried the peanut butter and it left a stain, but did get out the gum. One day I was trying to get a job done kinda quick because I had another one to do and I wondered if lighter fluid would work to dissolve it. To make a long story short, it got the gum out in just seconds and dissolved the wax with-in a minute. So I found out something new to get the job done faster!" Thanks for sharing Angela! "

Use gas. Pour it into a cloth and wipe the rug.

So who was the culprit that used one of your cars for a waste basket?

The peanut butter thing works really well, I've used it many times ( have 6 kids). My method would be to use the teeth of the person who dropped it to scrape away the major parts and mop up the rest with his or her spleen squeezings!
