I've been in LA area for the last few days for work and I seriously don't understand bikers here in being able to drive between cars wherever they go. That's not the case in IL. I've seen plenty of crazed bikers driving around, cutting people off, weaving in and out of traffic and narrowly getting between cars while going well above the speed limit on the highway. I know its legal here in CA to drive between cars like that and apparently its even a question on the written exam but it just seems crazy. It was a madhouse yesterday on the 10 heading into LA with these idiots. Is there a high rate of biker accidents in CA? I don't see how there wouldn't be with people like this and people changing lanes without seeing a biker. It's definitely a different aspect in driving then what we have in the Chicago area. We do have our fair share of squids though who weave in and out of traffic. EDIT: looks like you're talking about the squids XD Most of the bikers I know don't do that since its legal. Also its legal because it makes sense, bikes are at a higher risk when sitting in traffic as opposed to cars and it helps with traffic decongestion. Just think about it, that's one less vehicle in front of you.

I was once a volunteer fire fighter here, and I speak from experience, it is usually a bike falling down hard or tangling with a car.
