Ive never had issues with the car for the first 2 or so years of ownership. Now its little things here and there pissing me off. Trunk doesnt open unless manually. Window makes a clanking noise when rolled up. Just to name a few. The car has low compression on the front rotor (got it tested last year). My plan was to get the new engine under warranty and then selling it but if im trading it in i dont think the amount of money i would get for it would be much different with the old engine. Also ya the power is not there at all. Ive hated getting beat by civics. Not that i race or anything, just a little street fun sometimes.
Do you guys think it would be wise to get the engine replaced before selling or am i better off just selling it as is ?? Keep in mind im still saving for the new car so i would either have to hold on to his car for a bit after the new engine or if i sold it as is , i would have to drive a shitty civic for a bit till i can afford the z. |

I have not driven the RX8, but I have owned an Evo X MR. The dual clutch sucks at low speeds (I may have had a lemon though, I'm not sure, but dealer couldn't and wouldn't fix it). If you get the GSR, it only has 5 gears, which annoyed me personally as I believe 6 is ideal. Besides passengers, the Z is MORE practical. I say this because of the silly trunk in the Evo (they have the battery and washer fluid back there, which cuts on cargo space). You could always put your cargo on the back seats, but that's messy IMO.
If the MR's dual clutch behaved properly, I would have probably still kept it, but proper dual clutches are hard to come by.. The Z also looks so sick, and the interior is no comparison. If you get bad weather though, the Z isnt the best choice. I can comment a lot on the two, if you need more advice feel free to ask anything. And I just like to take this time out and again say how much JungleZ annoys me, as well as this entire forum. Edit: I genuinely think he likes all the negative attention he gets from here. Why he is still on this forum is beyond me..

Since you asked. In 2011 I bought a 2010 RX8 with 5k on it as a "toy" car to play with. It was fully loaded sans navigation - and owned by a woman. I did my research and knew all the "issues" - but I figured they were no big deal if managed.
Within the first week I knew I had made a mistake for the type of driver/owner I am. Low on power, horrible mileage, cheap plastics, oil consumption to the max, terrible build quality, water in tail lights, pain to maintain, etc... Upside - 4 doors, it was light and handled well once you got it going. The Z is in another league. Design, materials, build quality, engine, - everything. Think of it like if you were comparing our Z to a Cayman or 911. That's how far a step up it is. Most Z's are fairly bullet proof. The only chance you have of getting a decent price is to have the rotary engine replaced under warranty. -s- Last edited by ParkStr8; 06-21-2013 at 03:06 PM. |

Well, if you can get an engine replaced under the warranty for free then why not?

z has better mpg, reliability, build quality, and power.
somehow mazda missed the mark with that rotary. usually with an engine you can have 2 of the following 3 things. performance, reliability, and economy. the rx8 has literally none of those traits... not a single one. coming from an rx8, you will want to get intakes and test pipes on a Z to smooth out the way up in the rpm's so it doesn't feel super coarse compared to the rx8.

evo x is much more mod friendly. it will "feel" faster with the same hp since it has more torque. it doesn't quite have the looks of the z, but can be driven year round, and haul more people. not bad cars, but i like the more exotic look and feel of the z. plus the nissans interior is miles above the evos
i feel as far as quality and finish, the nissan is far above a mazda or mitsu. fun to drive is completely opinion based.

i agree with you on that. I think the z is a true sports car. Meant to be abused and perform like a sportscar. Whereas the evo is sedan with lots of power, dont get me wrong the z is plenty fast but the evo will respond to mods better as you said. The Z is a sexier car and im starting to lean towards it right now. I would sacrifice the AWD and slightly better power capabilities for a style with decent power.

The Z is more than mod friendly as long as you have the cash. You'll be at around 300-330whp (depending on the dyno) with full bolt-on's and tune. Twin turbos will get you bigger gains, but you'll end up spending $10k-$15k. To be honest though, bolt-on's are enough for me since it's mostly a daily driver.

Just saw a white evo x while i went out to grab a bite. It didnt look that nice to me. Its a nice looking and ive seen some really nicely done ones on instagram etc but i think the nismo 370z blows it away in terms of looks.
Anyone wanna give me their opinion on whether i should get the engine replaced under warranty before selling ? If i get it replaced i will probably hold on to it a bit. If not ill sell it as is and pick up a used civic while i save for the nismo. From what i heard if i were to trade it in it wouldnt matter. If i sell privately it might. You guys think i would get more money selling as is or with a new engine ? |
