With a little modification to a 7443 bulb, the oem is a perfect match.
  The 7440 is 25 watts and is too bright. The outer contacts on a 7443 are also too bright as that's the 25watt brake light on many cars. Bend the outer red marked contacts back and forth until they break off. Bend the inner green contacts over to where the outer contacts used to be. Voila, a 5 watt 7440 that matches the tails.
