Default Mileage on a new car?

I apologize in advance if this question is in the wrong forum but...what kind of mileage should a "brand new" car have? I bought my first '06 Z and it had only 9 miles on it. I'm going in to look at a 2010 Roadster this weekend and the dealer says it has 24 miles on it. Usually this wouldn't bother me too much but they, much too willingly and easily, offered me under invoice in less than 2 emails back and forth. It got me wondering if they're trying to pass off a tester to me...

i had like 37 miles on my car when i got it. it was trucked in but i'm sure someone drove it around a bit at the original dealer. normal really. just do a thorough inspection and you'll be fine.

look for wheel rubs, paint chips where the bumpers meet the fenders and rear quarters, scratches on the interior (especially the cup holder area)

This has been beat to death in other threads. I've bought new cars with anywhere from 4 to 300 miles. The latter were driven in from other dealerships by old men who do this all the time. Don't sweat it..

Great, thanks for the responses. It's just that I barely had to negotiate on price, it seems they're practically throwing the car at me. Can't complain, I guess! I always do a thorough inspection and things won't be different here. Thanks again.

Mine had 98 miles ... 80 and change of it coming from driving it from San Antonio to Austin for me. I don't know if it was some old man who drove it up, but the car was perfect

Exactly, my 370 had 58 on it, my Max had 17, my wife's G had 81. No issues on any.

Mine had 62. I used that when negotiating a deal, said it was too high for me, and they whacked a little more off the top. I figure as long as somebody didn't beat the snot out of it for 40-50 miles...and after 1300 driven, all is well.

No I don't mind at all. In fact, if this all goes through well, I think it'd be great to share good dealer experiences. I'm working with Autobarn Nissan in Evanston. I built the Roadster through the website and got an MSRP of $46,300. Then a dealer emailed me saying they had that exact color combination and package. I told him I have all the invoice prices and don't want to pay above that. He said he'd talk to his manager and an hour later he offered me $42,685 + TTL. Hardly any negotation there and I was pretty amazed it was under invoice. He even sent me pictures of the car in the warehouse and everything. Really great customer service so far.

70 miles on mine. My Z appears to have been perfect. Hard to find any with no miles (fewer than 5) on them, unless you order the car and are there to take delivery when it arrives. Maybe it's because there are relatively few Z's at most dealerships, that so many of them have to be used to give a test drive or two before they are eventually sold. I just hope the potential buyer didn't abuse mine when he put some of those 70 miles on it. I was always careful when I drove a demo car out of concern for that final buyer, notwithstanding the stupid salesman urging me to "Go ahead, see what she'll do..."

Nice I was just in there last week buying an O2 sensor... They used to do ChicagoZ meets and shop nights I've been told, hopefully that will continue this year.. Seems like they are decent guys over there.

When I was there, one of the salesmen there told me they have 2 brand new 2008 (yes 2008) Nismo Z's still in stock there. Can probably get them both for the price of that roadster..

Good luck on the purchase!

I've found this out too. Dealers have had a big change of heart in negotiating since the 370 first came out. They must be hurting big time. I shopped for one last summer just to get a feel for what the pricing was. Now this spring Ill probably pull the trigger and buy. Very first quote on a 2010 was 300 UNDER invoice for a base + sport + MT.

Wouldn't worry about it.... 24 miles, even if hard, should be nothing for the car... Mine had about 50 on it (25 I put on during my test drive). I think what you are seeing is a willingness of the dealers to deal amist one of the worst recessions in recent history... They are still making money, but with the economy, I am sure they don't have too many buyers...
