Lets see if it's the gas gauge's shíttiness or my fuel pump
Borrowed a 370Z last weekend and the same thing happened to me, said I had 50 miles left with 3 dots, then shat itself in the middle of the road, was no fun.

Yeah, it was THE weirdest thing, I was going up a hill, going 45-50, then I noticed power cut for half a second, looked down, RPMs were fine, so I thought somehow I hit limp mode... But the oil was at 180, so I started to pull over, (cut people off to make that immediate right turn) and it didn't make it I tried to roll down out of the way every time traffic died for 10 seconds.
God that scared the shít out of me because I put the hazards on but people are known for FLYING up that hill, and I just clenched and hit the brake over and over praying they'd know I was broken down

Just fill up the darn tank! You bought a sports car and it's thirsty all the time.

Can't quite understand why you guys let your fuel get so low. The fuel also assist the fuel pump in keeping it cool and does not strain itself.

I drive a lot and I like to fill up near my office (new gas station) or near my house (cheap prices). How much quicker do you really think my fuel pump is going to fail? As, long as there's gas in the tank, it seems like the fuel pump would have gas to keep it cool. Is there really a point at which there isn't enough gas to cool the fuel pump but there is enough to run the engine?

I haven't noticed any posts about burnt up fuels pumps due to low fuel (for DDs), but I haven't read everything.

From what little I've read about modern fuel pumps, as long as you're pumping liquid, you're OK. When it gets to the point where you are not pumping, the car shuts down anyway.

Unless you habitually run out of fuel, it shouldn't be a problem. But I'm no expert. YMMV.

I was driving around all day and on the way to the gas station, and yep, it cools and lubricates the fuel pump because the fuel pump is in the tank
But I think I am having fuel pump, or injector or spark plug problems anyways (you can check my other thread) we'll see what the dealershit says tomorrow

You must be having fun

I generally get around 19 mpg in the city which gives me over 350 miles per tank.

Does it matter what grade of gas I put in? I usally put Plus or Premium but sometimes when I'm on a budget I have to put in regular.... My fuel pump went out when my car only had 30,000 miles on it, it was horrible and I had to get it fixed for a pretty price... I wonder if what kind of gas had something to do with it....

Premium ONLY, dude. 91 octane or greater. Using the wrong gas doesn't effect the fuel pump, but it's bad for your motor.

Yes. Due to the Z's high combustion you can't use anything below 91. You are at risk of pre-combustion in your cylinder if you use 87. You need more octane in your fuel to avoid this. Defiantly never ever put 87 or 89 in it.
