To each his own.

But I believe the Escort Passport 9500ix to be the best radar laser detector of its type currently available on the market at this time.

Enjoy!

Escort Passport 9500ix Review

By Consumer Research.

"For the earliest possible warning that a radar gun looms nearby, experts have traditionally recommended the Valentine One -- until now. The Escort Passport 9500ix (*Est. $500) has caught up to the Valentine One's long-range radar detection in SpeedZones.com's authoritative tests, and the Escort will also warn you about upcoming speed and red-light cameras -- something the Valentine One cannot do. The Escort also cuts down on false alarms, users' major complaint about the Valentine One. However, people who own a Valentine One radar detector often say they wouldn't want anything else. They like that it won't become obsolete, because the company offers continual upgrades, and they swear by the Valentine One's dual front-and-rear antennas and unusual directional arrows that show whether a radar or laser signal is coming from ahead or behind.
The objective, expert test data presented at SpeedZones.com and GuysOfLidar.com show how the Valentine One measures up against other radar detectors -- but the recent SpeedZones.com test includes the latest detectors, while the older GuysOfLidar.com test does not. A lengthy written review at LaserVeil.com is accompanied by a video review, and both are based on testing. The 007RadarDetectors.com site clearly ranks radar detectors according to their capabilities, but test methods are not clearly stated. The Valentine One has accumulated a large number of user reviews at Epinions.com, where it is a favorite of consumer"

My opinion is that as long as you go with a "better" quality detector you cant lose. I have two 8500 X50 Passport Escorts [1 blue and 1 red] and swear by them. There is no real difference between the 8500 and the 9500 except for the GPS the 9500 has. I also agree the V1 is good but dont really care about the arrows or where the cops at. If the detector goes off I am slowing down and dont need arrows.

I had an older Escort Passport model (8500), which was amazing. When I saw the 9500ix, I did their swap for an $80 credit towards the new radar. The 9500ix is fantastic. Gives great forewarning on upcoming traps and the GPS features make it an absolute winner. The savings in red light camera alerts alone can pay for this thing in the city. It's ability to learn falses using the GPS is also a key selling point. V1 may have a slight advantage on range, but alerting at 2.5mi vs 3mi makes no difference unless you're doing 256mph in a Veyron. The GPS perks make this the clear winner for me.

That was a trip. I read that on Jalopnik while at work and was like, WTF? I can't believe someone could be so careless to put a Veyron into a lake

I have the 9500ix and V1, I personally like the 9500ix better because it is very quiet, it has very few if any false alarms. If I hear it, chances are it's a real threat. I've actually used them side-by-side and the V1 just kept going off in business areas with X-band (bank vaults, door openers, and microwaves) while the 9500ix remained quiet. The 9500ix actually picked up a Maryland state Trooper from behind the vehicle before the V1 went off.

Also, police officers have been using a method for years now, where they're "clocking" you from the oncoming traffic, say, on the expressway, but they're too close for your Detector to pick their signal up in time...You're fried anyway. As technology advances, it's harder to avoid Big Brother!

This setup was diffused years ago with adding a sensor in the front of a radar detector. Plus, the top end radar detectors can pick up most signals from one to two miles away.
Currently there are only two ways for a cop to catch you without setting off a radar detector and being able to pull you over. Laser, if you are hit you are screwed, and instant on setups. The instant on setups are still very rare as laser is more accurate and instant on does not always ping the fastest car.

there are devices that completely fry the laser. Lookie:

K-40 LD5500 PLUS Laser Diffuser *Free Shipping W/Paypal Payment*

And unlike the bogus "radar jammers", these appear to work from what I've read on other forums.

If your V1 is going off to a bunch of unnecessary x-band sources, you can change to a different mode. My V1 is quiet as a mouse unless it's active threat.
