Default The typical - what do you guys think type of thread

Hey guys,

Think this might be one if not my first thread I have started and hate to say it - it's another 'What do you guys think I should do LOL' but here is the deal. I currently have a silver 2011 370z touring/sport with 73k miles on it. Long story short (too late) I bought this car with 59k on the odo rather quickly bc of the following:
1. good price at the time
2. didn't know if i was going to like it enough to want to keep it - the only promise i made to myself was that i would keep it a year.

After owning it for the last 9mo, I have put around 14k miles on it - it is my DD. And I have to admit, it's a great car, no doubt about it. So that brings me to my question:

- I am thinking that maybe I should look to trade in my current ride (as it stands I wouldn't be upside down on it but I wouldn't get anything after the lien was paid off) to get a lower mileage vehicle. I have found a 2014 online with only 17k miles and it's the same setup - touring/sport. It looks nice and I know it will be the same exact vehicle inside and out - except for the front bumper; but they are asking for $26k - thinking I can probably get them down a little bit more but...would you do it?

When I do the math of the following - I come up with a $10k difference for gaining about 55k miles back. So I guess my 2nd question other than would you do it would be - are you guys worried about high mileage vehicles - it's not that I don't think this car can go 100k miles but I do think, 'man, if I'm going to mod it - would I want to mod a vehicle with this many miles?'

I know Nissans are good cars - heck MOST cars easily can push 150k miles as long as you take care of them but was wondering - is it worth modding a vehicle that will have so many miles? Anyways - all comments are welcome.

For the most part, I agree with JARblue but a lot depends on what mods you plan on making. If you're just going to do "basic" intake/exhaust/tune, then what you have should do fine. If you plan on installing a blower and nitrous, maybe not.

Edit: It also depends on how well the drivetrain has been maintained. Compression check, UOA, &c should give you a good idea of what you are dealing with.

Thanks guys. yeah, when I say basic mods - I'm strictly talking doing some swift springs, some nice wheels and then upgrading the stereo. I might go with an exhaust but overall, not looking to do anything crazy with the car since this would be my DD.

So you guys feel if you were in my shoes - keep the current ride and do the mods, why spend more money for what will be the same exact car to begin with?

Probably. A lot depends on how well the car has been maintained. I'd want to do a good inspection of the drivetrain before sinking too much time and money into it.

Forty or fifty years ago, a car would be pretty well worn out at 75k-100k miles. Nowadays, one can expect 200k. Or more, with proper maintenance.

I definitely make a point to keep up with the maintenance on the vehicle - I've always been that way - the funny thing is that I have a tendency to say 'I'm keeping this ride forever LOL' and then literally after owning it for 3 years - I'll wind up trading it in for something else.

Again, thanks for the advice. My friend was talking to me this morning and was pretty much saying the exact same thing - he was like, if you are going to trade it in - make it for something else and not the same car. Bc miles don't mean anything as long as you maintain the vehicle.

used cars are like buying someone's problem.
