Old thread and time has marched on since the original post; new detectors, new options and opinions.
I always figured the V1 was the only one to get. You just can't beat the V1 with its 'bogey counter', the arrows are secondary but helpful, but the V1 falses a ton apparently. They have their own way of getting 'around' that now and still say the V1s bogey counter is unmatched. OTOH, I want to remain open minded so I'm also looking at the Escort Max and the Escort Redline. Using either of these two let me mount it real cleanly under the RV mirror wired into the Homelink power connector. Done. To mount and power the V1 and it's remote display (and Savvy, their false go around) is a pain by comparison. Goodbye simple connection to the mirror. Anyone with Escort Redlines or Escort Max with prior V1 ownership (or vice versa) that can comment definatively on the pros and cons of them? I would not be using the GPS abilities of either of the Escorts, at least not in the forseeable future, but a simple, clean install is really appealing as long as they are effective out in the real world. Thanks 104 |

Rdforum.org. Everything you could possibly imagine x 1000 on radar and laser.
If you are looking for only windshield mounted detectors and want absolute maximum range, there is no substitute for the Redline. I haven't looked back since I got mine. I am thinking about grabbing a V1 at some point though to run as well with a remote display. |

The bias level there seems a bit lower than some of the sites I had found. A few of them were a bit biased against the Valentine IMO. I don't want to arbitrarily eliminate any of the other detectors out there and just jump on a V1 because of its past accolades. 104 |

So from what research I've done there is an app called YaV1 that when paired with the V1 is supposed to make a great combo.
YaV1 runs on an Android phone (only Android) and uses BT to communicate with the V1. The phone doesn't even need to be activated with a carrier or have a data package. Updates can be done over WiFi wherever. The phone needs BT, WiFi and run a GPS app, and the faster the phone and newer the Android app the better, but it doesn't need to be all that fancy. Guys are using long obsolete phones to run YaV1, or unactivated, cheap pay-as-you-go phones paired with V1s through the V1 BT dongle. I'm still doing the research. I was at a BB today and downloaded YaV1 to a demo phone so I could see what it looked like. I only saw the YaV1 demo since it couldn't pair with a V1, obviously. Anyone here running YaV1?? 104 |

Just recommend you to remember three brands. Escort, Betronics, and Valentine. I bet that all the other brands are just like money-wasted.
IMO Escort Passport 9500ix highly recommended that it gives you least false alarms with its own GPS. It also outperforms almost all the other competitors for K and Ka band detection. In most states the old X band is no longer used. and is excellent for off-axis detection for 360 all-round full. Many say you cannot get safe from lasers, but actually you can. Not all LEOs are practiced enough to run laser (speed gun) if can slow down within 2~3 secs then if fortunate you can beat it. Beltronics is in the same company Escort, but just different brand. They even share same parts inside. is good, too. Valentine V1 is kind of unique. yeah it is good, and especially unrivaled to any other RDs that only V1 gives you an arrow that you can get exactly in what direction the radars come from. when you need the arrow, then that's it no hesitation. I'd also used Passport 8500 Black X50 - the best trim on 8500s but don't recommend it when you 370Z driver. For if your Camry or Altima then 8500 worthy but not for 370Z - it needs a better. Recently Escort made new RDs like Passport MAX, and MAX2 but have no idea for those at all - sorry. But say again, all the three brands only - Escort, Beltronics, and Valentine must be in your choice if you need real protection, not an accessory. Last edited by felix0121; 12-31-2014 at 03:41 PM. |

I've always heard V1.
That being said, I've been driving sporty cars since I was 16. I've never had a radar detector and I have never had a ticket.
