I would try that... sometimes when I was inside and it wouldn't start using the start button... I would hit the unlock button on the key and then press the start button again and sometimes it would start. Really weird. Oh well, no issues anymore with the fuse back in and a REV D lock.

Just remember that the "D" lock doesn't fix the problem completely.

Have there been reports of a REV D failure? I know a few "C" ones have went down. Either way I have a REV C for a back up.

I don't know ,take this for what it is worth the GTR's don't have them and the 370 no longer has them.

I had my original slu fail and got replaced. About year later the D they put in failed. I was able to start the car one last time (kicked the slu) and pulled the fuse.

I got another D during the recall and pulled the fuse preemptively this time around.

So REV D has failed as well... dang! Well, I don't want to pull the fuse again because then I'll go through those starting issues. I know its not a big deal.. but when I press the start button I want the damn car to start without having to use the fob! I'll keep my REV C in the car so if I ever break down I can install it really quick. I used regular bolts instead of those security ones so changing it out should be a breeze!

Default 370z

Hey I have a question about the steering lock on the 2009 370z. I've been reading every ones input but just trying to get a specific answer. Mine recently decided not to start and the key light is the only light on the dash. The car won't go into accessory mode at all just stays in lock. Do I have to buy the new revD part from the dealer or is there something I can do myself? They said it's going to be about 800 just for the part. I was reading how people either pulled a fuse or snipped a wire but is that only a solution when the car is able to go into ACC mode? Input would be great not trying to get raped by the dealer. Thanks

Beat on the ESCL with your fist and you may be able to break it free so that you can get the car started. If you do manage to get things working, do NOT turn the car off until you remove the fuse. Several DIYs on this site - see link in my sig.

Go to the dealer. Tell them to replace it. It is on a recall. They have to replace it for FREE.

Nissan, dishing out the Ds.

Don't even bother with the warranty people. Pulling the fuse alone will be a far less time waster than actually getting the unit replaced. Especially since the replacement can fail just as easily...

I've had mine replaced. They replace it with a newer unit that has not had any failings. Get it replaced.

Unhappy 2010 370Z had this issue 1/9/2014

Can someone confirm symptoms for me? My sport package '10 just had this happen today, I THINK. 42,000 miles or so.
Here's what I saw on my end as I saw my own breath for a while inside the cabin

  • Doors unlock fine
  • Headlights work
  • No noise when I push the button
  • Just that "key" light comes on
  • No change if I insert into the fobgina.

Just had AAA tow me to my dealership and they are performing the recall first before they try anything else.

Here's the work order they gave me while I wait here in the waiting room. You can see the recall number is the same as the one listed in this thread and if that doens't work, they have a $99 minimum for diagnostic after that.

Thanks to all the people who bit the bullet before it was recalled and for making this thread which has gotten WAY too big, but I was well-informed about the issue before it happened to me. Never thought the day would come..
