Hello everyone, I need the distance it takes to go 0-60. Please provide a website or some kind of proof if possible.

Here is my story. A while back, my friend and I got pulled over, him in his s2k and me in my 2010 370z nismo. We left the parking lot and made a right turn. From the right turn to the next right turn is about 500 ft. The officer pulled us both over and said we were driving 60mph. Which is BS because neither of us was going that fast. Id admit we were 5-10mph above speed limit, but thats it.

Now lets say 500 ft, that will mean I had to be pushing my Z to the limit then suddenly stopping. The stopping distance is 103 ft. So is it possible to reach 60mph with only 397ft?

Quarter mile is 1320 ft which takes about 13 seconds.

Much thanks people!

I'd say its not likely to reach 60 in that distance but possible depending on driver. If you look at the 1/4 thread, a lot of people are runnin low 13's and trap speeds are 103+ mph on average. Some wheel spin and then bite, im sure its not far fetched to hit 60 in that distance. the S2k, no way though lol.

Yeah and I was running behind the s2k...I just need some proof for court. I really don't care about paying the fine, but I just hate being wrongly accused. Plus the officer was being a ****.

You won't find any evidence about distance it takes to get to 60mph. Atleast none that the court will care to look at. There are plenty of reviews on actually time it takes to get to 60 but not distance.

I lost the case! I showed the judge the distance from point A to point B is 526ft and that it would be impossible to reach 60 mph and break in time to make the turn. I used the equation (acceleration = distance/time). I provided the map just as a reference for the distance, provided the givens, equations, and proof. The officer said, yeah your math is probably right, but you were going over 80mph. Couldn't even get his story straight. The judges response was, Okay look at the map, the cars are like tiny ants, so this is about 4 inches apart, so yeah it is possible to go over 60mph. She couldn't even read the map, had it upside down and couldn't figure out how the scale works.

It was CHP day, 15+ chp officers showed up that day. Man...I am pretty speechless on our system.

You do realize that the harder you fight it, the more guilty you look. Speeding from a standing start (admitting yourself that you were in excess of the posted limits) driving a sports car, vs another sports car. You were not going to win. You would have been better off taking it easy from standing starts and just being respectful to the officer and by chance gotten off with a warning.

It should be that if the officer got it wrong, let him off.. or at least lower the charges to what was admitted... Not "play nice" and let them continue to do that to other people, too...

Found this post late... but your case reminds me an article from one of the editors from Road&Track.

He was in a similar situation as yours, the only difference is he as driving a Porsche and the place was a traffic.

Anyway, he got pulled over from a green light start and the officer also charged him speeding.

Similar theory, he said there's no way he could accelerate his car to the officer recorded, thus he went on to the court, with all the calculation and drawings.

And consider himself as an automobile person with knowledge, he thought he has a chance.

The judge simply ignored all his "theories"... and the verdict of his was same as your.

Next time... if you got into the same situation, you might want the officer to show you his radar gun.

You should appeal man. You have good evidence and the judge just completely dismissed it. In fact if someone can find a stock nismo 370z dyno I can build a fairly complex computer model for you that would tell you exactly how much distance you would need to reach 60.

I had a cop pull me over once for "speeding" because I left the light faster than her. Posted speed limit was 55MPH I was going 60. She said:

"You need to slow down I had to go 70 MPH to catch you"

I said "No kidding I accelerated faster than you, so to close any gap you would have to go faster"

After giving me a verbal lashing and running my info she let me go. I think she figured out how dumb she was.

how did he give you a ticket for going above the posted limit without radar or pacing or something.... they needed to have anything other then how it looked. and as stated it was the wrong way to try to fight that ticket

If he appeals it, the Appeals court will only look at the actions of the court and the verdict, not the relevant facts to the case. For something of this nature where the facts of the case were contested he would lose an appeal.

No matter how much you talk back, the basic premise is you were breaking the law. Which is why it is better to just be cordial with the officer and hope for a warning. When pulled over is not the time/place to have a confrontation. You're only making it worse on yourself.

I've been pulled over because the Day I got my registration I didn't have an inspection sticker. I was driving home FROM the inspection office with the passed inspection report printout, only problem was the 1 person who gives out the stickers wasn't there. Explained it to the cop and got a fix it ticket. Had my sticker the next day, no big deal. He just wanted to see my car up close, didn't help his case 2 other cops went extremely slowly past me on the side of the road.

Moral of the story: Treat them with respect, get off. Treat them with lip, get stiffer punishment.
