They replaced the CSC, air bleeder valve, clutch master system, the flexible hose and bleed system.

Lesson is if the clutch pedal gives in, replace the entire clutch hydraulic system.

With a new car, how can air leak into the system? What caused it? Bad seals, hard driving, I dunno.

Pare in the Philippines we call leaks as "TULO" you need to flush antibiotics to your Z!

Anyway sorry to hear you have to go through all that considering yours is like a year old. Good thing warranty covered it it. Your Z is stil one of the best looking out ther!

Have them check everything and see if its truly related to a bad install. Plus he said it more likley that if the new issue is unrelated that i could get it cover under goodwill (which is 5yr/75000). Anyone have thoughts?

May I ask who this local Cincinnati dealer is for future reference?

MrAurora 12-18-2013 01:03 PM

I definately dont think its the csc - definately not what happened to me. I just lost clutch pressure. That doesn't sound good tho !

jaedub 12-18-2013 01:19 PM

So CSC is covered under the drivetrain warranty which is 5 years/60,000 miles correct?

mayday813 01-26-2014 10:28 AM

CSC failure covered under warranty?

Did this question ever get answered? Specifically, does the 5 year 60k mile warranty cover the concentric slave cylinder (CSC) failure.

Sorry it's been awhile since I checked this thread. My car was at Kings Nissan. I've always heard good things about Kings, and my experience was great!!

Mine was not covered. I eventually bitched enough that Nissan USA paid for half of my repair, so it still cost me $700

That's disturbing since the Nissan warranty indicates that it covers the drivetrain with the exception of those items excluded which are primarily wear items or abused equipment. in my thinking the CSC is an intregal part of the transmission drivetrain. I think that it may be worth a trip to small claims court.

Has anyone had success with Nissan covering the failed CSC under the 5 year 60k mile warranty not the three year warranty?

Cvzg77r 01-26-2014 10:39 PM

I had this happen and the dealer on changed the fluid to GTR fluid thats it and its been working fine one morning though the pedal felt unusually soft and the engagement point was not where it usually is so I kept on driving it because I had to go to work and after the drive it came back to normal which kind scares me because i feel like its going to fail completely as soon as I'm out of warranty....

Thats what happened to me I lost all pressure and my pedal stuck to the floor and the dealer only replaced the fluid and bled the system thats it

dc3843 01-27-2014 06:39 AM

I've only had the pedal stick to the floor once, when the car was about 2 months old. BUT, when I drive it first thing in the morning, if I get after it and shift quickly, the clutch pedal makes a really weird nice, like a clunk or something with each shift. CSC?

Doesn't sound like it - mine gave no warning noises. In fact it never made noise before, during, or after failure. I don't know that it even could - if you saw it you would know what i mean. Its a small plastic bit that fits in your hand.

Solid argument for CSC to be included in the 5yr/60,000mi Powertrain Warrantee

Hi guys,

My story is the same as everyone else's. I got my 370Z used with 26750 miles. TWO WEEKS later, the CSC failed. The car still had 4.5 month under the 5yr/60,000mi warrentee, but Nissan said that the CSC was not covered under the powertrain warrantee.

I did my homework.... and I'm stubborn.

Now, eventually, the dealership I got the car from recognized that they had to cover the repairs as I was still in their 30 day "they have to cover all repairs" window, so I didn't actually have to deal with Nissan directly, however, I learned some valuable information that I figured I would share so others in this situation with Nissan have some ammunition to argue their case. Items that are BOLD and UNDERLINED are of pivotal importance.

1) For completeness, owners of pre-used cars are covered:
https://owners.nissanusa.com/content...2009_N_WIB.pdf
Quote:

This warranty is provided to the original and subsequent
owner(s) of a Nissan vehicle originally distributed by
Nissan which is originally sold by a Nissan authorized
Nissan dealership in the United States
, and which is
registered in the U.S. and normally operated in the
United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), the United
States territories (specifi cally Guam, Saipan, American
Samoa, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), and
Canada.

This warranty is generally transferable from the
original ‘owner other than a Nissan dealer’ (OWNER)
to subsequent owners of the vehicle at any time
ownership of the vehicle is transferred, without any
action on your part
; except that this warranty is not
transferable but is instead VOID if during the fi rst
six months after delivery to the original OWNER: (1)
ownership of the vehicle is transferred from the original
OWNER,
and
(2) the vehicle is registered outside of
the United States
So you are covered, even if you are not the original owner.

2) Referring to Nissan's own Factory Warrentee Manual regarding the Powertrain warrantee:
Quote:

The Powertrain coverage period is 60 months or 60,000
miles, whichever comes first.
• This warranty covers any repairs needed to correct defects
in materials or workmanship.
• Powertrain coverage applies to components listed below,
supplied by Nissan except for those items listed under the
caption “WHAT IS NOT COVERED”.

TRANSMISSION AND TRANSAXLE
Case and all internal parts, torque converter and converter
housing, automatic transmission control module, transfer case and all internal parts, seals and gaskets, clutch cover
and housing, and electronic transmission controls.

DRIVETRAIN
Drive shafts, final drive housing and all internal parts,
propeller shafts, universal joints, bearings, seals and
gaskets.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
DAMAGE, FAILURES OR CORROSION DUE TO
ACCIDENTS, MISUSE OR ALTERATIONS
This warranty does not cover damage, failures or corrosion
resulting from:
• Accident, theft, fire, driving through water (including
engine water ingestion) or misuse, which includes
racing of any sort whatsoever (Proper use is outlined
in your OWNER’S MANUAL).
• Alteration, tampering or improper repair.
• Installation of non-Nissan approved accessories or
components.
• Improper installation of any Nissan approved or
aftermarket accessory or component.
• Glass breakage, unless resulting from defects in
material or workmanship.
• Normal wear and tear, including dings, dents, chips
or scratches.

ALTERED OR UNCERTAIN ODOMETER MILEAGE
This warranty does not cover repair of any vehicle or any part
of a vehicle whose odometer mileage has been altered, or the
odometer repaired or replaced and the actual vehicle mileage
cannot be correctly and readily determined.

SALVAGE TITLE
This limited warranty does not apply to any vehicle, and is
rendered VOID if the vehicle is (or ever has been) issued a
“salvage” or similar title under any state’s law; or has ever been
determined to be a “total loss” or equivalent by any insurance
company, such as by payment of a cash payment of claim in lieu
of repairs because of a determination that the cost of repairs
exceeded the actual cash value of the vehicle.
DAMAGE, FAILURES OR CORROSION FROM
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

This warranty does not cover damage, failures or corrosion
resulting from:
• Stone chipping, chemical fallout (acid rain), tree sap, salt,
hail, wind-storm, lightning, flood or other environmental
conditions.

The items listed below are not covered under corrosion
coverage (perforation from corrosion).
• Exhaust system components.
• Corrosion of outer trim parts, such as moldings.

However, corrosion of outer trim parts is warranted for
12 months or 12,500 miles, whichever comes first.
• Corrosion other than perforation, such as cosmetic
or surface corrosion due to defects in materials
or workmanship. This is covered under the Basic
Coverage of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
• Special bodies or equipment not manufactured or
supplied by Nissan.

DAMAGE, FAILURES OR CORROSION DUE TO LACK
OF OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE
This warranty does not cover damage, failures or corrosion
resulting from:
Lack of performance of proper maintenance services as
outlined in your NISSAN SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
GUIDE.
Use of improper or dirty fuel, fluids or lubricants.
Use of parts not equivalent in quality or design to parts
supplied by Nissan.

MAINTENANCE SERVICE EXPENSE
This warranty does not cover normal maintenance services
as specified in your NISSAN SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
GUIDE such as engine tune-up; cleaning and polishing; wheel
alignment; headlight aiming; replacement of filters, replacement
of windshield wiper inserts, replacement of key fob batteries,
lubricants, coolant; worn brake shoes, pads, drums and rotors
and worn clutch discs.
SEAT BELTS, TIRES, DROP-IN BEDLINERS AND

EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
Seat belts, tires, drop-in bedliners and the emission control
system are not covered by this warranty, but are covered by
separate warranties.
NISSAN SPRAY-IN BEDLINERS
Nissan Spray-in Bedliners will be repaired to commercially
acceptable standards which may include minor appearance
differences from the original bedliner.
(See following pages for
separate
warranties which may apply to your Nissan, such as those covering vehicle emissions,
seat belts, and tires.)
The powertrain warrantee for the transmission includes "Case and all internal parts". The CSC is internal to the bellhousing (which is part of the rest of the transmission) and therefore an "internal" part. It is also a bearing. The exclusions make NO MENTION of any clutch components except for the clutch discs in the MAINTENANCE SERVICE EXPENSE section.

3) Nissan tried telling me that the CSC was not a powertrain component and therefore not covered under the powertrain warrantee. The CSC is Nissan part#: 306A1-JK40D, and listed under the parts category TRANSMISSION CASE & CLUTCH RELEASE which is under the parent category POWER TRAIN [F]. Their OWN part documentation classifies the CSC as a powertrain part.

2009 Nissan 370z Coupe OEM Parts - Nissan USA eStore Part# 306A1-JK40D

I have heard of others in this thread and their success getting Nissan to recognize that the CSC falls under the powertrain warrantee. I was armed with all this material to make it clear that this part should be covered. When it comes down to it, anyone presented with this documentation who still tried to deny that the CSC was not a covered part would just make themselves sound like a complete idiot. There is not much to argue. Shove their own documentation down their throat and insist that they hold up their end of the deal by supporting your car!

Quote:

Powertrain warrantee still valid? [YES]
Part not defined as an exclusion or maintainance exclusion? [YES]
Defective part classified as a Powertrain component? [YES]
CASE CLOSED! :driving:

My 2nd one is going out I can tell, but I won't bother with going to the dealer this time that part is going to fail again. There are 2 more fixes coming one from Z1 motorsports and one from Os Giken.

How many miles and how old is your vehicle? If over 3 years and 36k miles did you purchase an extended warranty? Or, was this covered under the 60k drive train warranty?

Tb09z 02-21-2014 10:48 AM

Clutch pedal seems soft especially after being on interstate sticks about halfway pops back though ( for now ) nissan is of course trying not to cover anything... Imagine that might just replace everything idk???

dP3NGU1N 02-21-2014 11:55 AM

If enough people fill this out is it possible to force Nissan to issue a recall on this part?

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/Vehicl...nt/index.xhtml

I think complaining to Nissan directly really isn't going to get us anywhere and they're going to continue to replace faulty parts with the exact same thing time and time again.

tanamerra 02-21-2014 01:01 PM

Nissan finally made good on the steering wheel lock issue after many complaints.

axmea? 02-21-2014 09:49 PM

Zspeed and Z1 each has their own upgrade. Any feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of each version? I am on my 2nd oem clutch hydraulic system with 21k miles on it and anticipating an upgrade within 10k miles. I could use some feedback from those who have switched to aftermarket units. Thanks!

martin82 02-21-2014 10:00 PM

CSC failure covered under warranty?

z1 is doing testing so we won't know for a bit more

Mike 02-22-2014 08:05 AM

Z1 is currently running it on their shop Z34 and I think their spec Z Z33 racecar. Mine will be the 3rd, but I won't be driving the car until March 13/14/15th next at Road Atlanta.

Drakonis GTR 02-23-2014 10:47 AM

Great, something else on this car I have to worry about breaking. First the steering wheel lock, and now this. Oh well.

But if it makes anyone feel better to know that issues like this are fairly common, take a look at this known issue with Chrysler LX-platform cars and their automatics:

Can't shift out of park, into gear, and pink thingy replacement

Just think, with one snap of a small arm (about the diameter of a headphone jack) that holds a spring, your $35k charger, magnum, or 300 becomes driveway ornament. Engine runs fine, just cant get it to shift out of park, unless you remove most of the shifter bezel, and move this "thing" manually with a screwdriver.

They are all doing it folks. The drive to make these cars cheaper so they get more profit out of them is leading to more and more of these issues that none of them want to deal with unless you hold them to the fire.

That's why I can't tell anyone what my dream car is. Anytime they ask, I tell them I don't have one because I haven't built it yet.

This man is fortunate enough to either have his own shop and or have no issues with the CSC labor involved.

For us folks who have access to neither, do we just keep replacing CSC's until the warranty runs out or what?

martin82 02-23-2014 02:15 PM

Well I am getting a better clutch and lighter flywheel installed so I'm doing the upgrade now so I don't have to deal with dealer anymore yes money out of pocket but always waste of time going to dealer now I have way too many mods now.

But yes keep going to dealer if it fails, insist on mc and csc replacement at the same time due to debris/contamination in the fluid.

I read this entire thread and I am not sure if this issue is for certain years or is an issue for all mt? I am hoping to purchase a mt this spring and and I am thinking, at, mt or buy used mt and just plan for an aftermarket clutch upgrade.

What I saw in the thread was 2009s with the issue.

I am pretty sure is all years because there's a few 2012 that have had the csc go bad on them!!

I been talking to Joe at zpeed bout getting a SS street clutch kit!!..im just waiting for him to send me the numbers so i can pay him!!

mab864 04-30-2014 12:02 AM

It's all years. My '13 with 4100 miles on it just had the clutch go to the floor and it wouldn't come back. I had it towed to the dealership and they flushed the system and installed the higher temperature GTR brake fluid. Now I've got a little intermittent grind going into 2nd gear before the engine and tranny warm up. Just every once in a while but I'm gonna take it back. Pedal feels OK but engagement is closer to the floor than it used to be and I shouldn't get grinding ever with the clutch fully disengaged. I think the CSC isn't moving forward as far as it should or there may be a little air in the system. They wouldn't change the CSC or CMC without doing the fluid flush first.
