Default making the switch to a Z, but have a concern

hey guys. i have thought about getting a 370z since 2009. i went with a camaro SS instead. I put a lot of money into my camaro. the car has around 520HP, cammed, full exhaust, intake, dyno tune. suspension mods, lightweight rims, tires etc.. the car sounds WICKED. and the looks to match.

but when i say to my self i would rather have a stock 370z over my modded SS, i know i need to sell it. i am sick of the whole camaro and mustang scene. i hate how they offer v6 and v8s . its just not a true performance car. the car should only have a v8 in it. i hate seeing so many v6 camaros and mustang around driven by non enthusiast. it just bothers me. so i am selling my camaro, and hoping it should cover a used 370z. i think i can get around 25-30 for the camaro.

but heres my concern. i really have never bought a used car before, and also one that has been out for this many years. i am the kind of guy who likes the newest and baddest thing. but as if this moment this is the car i want.

so when is the new Z coming out ? i would like to get at least 2 years out of the car before a new looks comes out.

We wouldn't know, you'd have to ask Nissan HQ or maybe an insider on that.. However, the newest Z that's been out is the 2013, which got a facelift just recently. They offered new things in the existing sport package, such as shocks, red calipers, and new style of rims. Oh, and their front end, they removed the fangs. You'll definitely get at least 2 years in my opinion.

And if you do get to find an insider, ask him for some hot stock tips!

Just don't buy anything older than a 2012, the previous years tend to have more issues and most seem to have been resolved with the 2012 production run. Definitly stay away from the 2009-2010 yrs.

Your guess is as good as mine. This year, they did a cosmetic update on the 370z, front bumper, new wheels, brake calipers, led strips, etc. I would imagine that they'd try and get a few years out of this look, but I don't know. There are rumors about something changing in 2014, but I have no idea.

No changes at all. I got told that in 2020 there will be a 50th anniversary Z

And on the 2014 a new 4 cilinder turbo.

2009-2011 got small fixable issues, nothing to worry about

Only issue I know of that was resolved was that in 2012, they added an oil cooler. Unless I've missed something...

If buying used, either go with a Nissan certified pre-owned or find a private party that has a documented history of the car. Neither of these will offer you 100% assurance that the car won't have any issues but you'll be stacking the deck in your favor this way.

You didn't indicate in your post if you've driven a 370Z yet. I would make that your first priority. When my Z32TT died, I wasn't completely sold on going with a 370Z until after I drove 5 or 6 used ones. Full disclosure: I ended up buying a new '12 but I was very close to picking up a used '11 when the new one with all the features I wanted popped up.

Good luck with the search.

well i don't care about little problems a car will have. but more about major drive train components. but yes i know what to look for, in terms of getting one that is not beat up. i know what will fail in a car that was driven hard.

again never bought a used car before. i would guess a certified used will cost more in general ?

i am going from a boat of a camrao, a 370z drives great. i have driven one.

Unlike the camaro, the Z isn't something we know about years in advance. I don't think we got a legitimate look at this gen Z until 4-5 months before it came out.

There's plenty of good used Z's in the for sale section of the forum.

Why wait sell the SS, and get into a 370z ASAP. Like you said you will get way more looks in this car then your SS. It will cost a lot more to get the kind of power you were making out of SS with the 370z, but its worth it!
