Default 4500 RPM or above with short shifter

I have a B&M short throw shifter, which has been great, but I have ran into one little thing. Starting in first I decide to give it a little gas and shift after about 4500 or more the shifter starts to rattle. Now I have put two after market shift knobs on and neither rattles, it is only stock. Now after trying a few aftermarket shift knobs I have come to like the stock shift knob a lot more than I thought I would have. The thing is ever since I had to remove it to put the short shifter in it started to vibrate above 4500.

Thoughts?

After a quick drive and trying to focus on the shifter, I thought at first I may have damaged the shift knob where the leather meets the metal (unsure what it is) and that was causing it. Not it, the sound seems to be coming from inside the shift knob as if the shifter is hitting the walls of the shift knob at a very quick pace back and forth.

Definitely strange. You didn't chicken out and stop screwing too soon did you? Make sure that knob is on there nice and tight. Just keep turning. The others may not have the same issue simply due to the weight they have.

iT's a weight and damping issue. Characteristic of a lot of short shifters..

Definitely not, started using a wrench to tighten it down.
Interesting modshack, any thoughts on how to resolve this? Maybe stuff something into the bottom (or top I guess) of the shift knob to create a sound barrier?

The problem is that there is damping built into the base of the stock shifter that absorbs some of the Vibration and potential rattle. I don't think the B&M has that. When you change the resonant weighting of the knob you get vibration. It's not in the knob, but in the mechanism. The more precise tolerances of the B&M accentuate it. The Z does have a buzzy shifter to begin with. I had exactly the same problem with a Corvette short shifter I installed. As I recall last time I had the boot up, the stocker has a big base that probably has damping characteristics just like the vette...I don't have a pic, but it is similar to this stock Corvette unit:

Somehow I'm reminded of the NSFW shift knob that... semtex? had. Absorb vibrations, haha.

From an actual standpoint, maybe you could dampen down the vibrations with a different shift knob. I do agree the Z knob is buzzy, but it feels nice because it changes as you add different amounts of throttle. But if the feedback from this short shifter is as bad as you say, I'd probably numb out my hand just driving around town...

i apologize for digging up an old thread.
However, I have exact same problem occurring after installing my short throw shifter about 2 months ago.
This has been really annoying, so I decided to take it to a reputable shop in my area do fix the problem, but the problem continues.

does anyone know how to approach this matter?

As stated earlier the B&M shifter just doesn't have any dampening to filter out the noise and vibration. It's going to do that.

My B&M is noisy as heck. I learned to live with it because I don't think there is anything that can be done to solve it. I figure the noise is the trade-off for precision.

I suggest going back to stock. the engineers got to the length with compromise and balance in mind.

Especially on recent cars I don't like swapping out too many things making things worse than stock.

I agree.

A lot of folks have complained about the chatter that the B&M makes. Perhaps try another company's kit like AMS, Rogue Engineering or Nismo.

I have a B&M shorty... I think I was the first actually as B&M tested it in my car. No noises, vibrations or rattles at all at any rpm.
