OK I just did it. Now the battery is dead but I assume it will start. Thanks for all the help. I will soon be changing my 2009 Awaiting Steering Lock Failure sig.

Batter is dead??... did you pull the battery cables by chance?
|
No issues here. Three months

Battery recharged and starts fine. The car has sounded weak on starts for awhile.

Just pulled the fuse on my '09. Very easy job. Took about 10 minutes and the only tool I needed was a small, flat-blade screwdriver for the plastic pop-rivets. Most difficult part was getting the fuse out (I didn't have a puller handy).

I like your humor. And no reach around, he really is a handy puller. :icon17: |
I really like the feature to be honest... I also have a warranty to 120K miles, I couldn't really care less, free rental car for me!

When I had my 09 I pulled it out but on my 2012 I have not done so. Is this still an issue for the 2012?
|

It's important to note that not only is this a preventitive measure but IT CAN fix the issue if your lock mechanism has already failed. The only thing you will need is a rubber mallet and a bit of patience. Once your steering lock fails the steps are essentially the same. No clutch/brake, gently tap the lock mechanism with the rubber mallet while simaltaneously pushing the on button. If you're lucky(like I was) the lock will unseize and allow you to go into the "on" position. Once you're there follow the above steps. When I called Nissan about this repair I was quoted $1180 not counting tow and rental car. F that fuse and pull that B out. |
