The smaller motor will have a lower upper power limit... Displacement is king, even with today's tech. The current motor responds to boost well and provides some great numbers

How is that? Have you seen what the Evo's WRX can do. Yes their flat four but that doesn't make much difference with today's technology plus most likely they will be adding direct fuel injection.

dude... my 98 GSX was making over 380awhp on a stock block and I spent less then 3k.. I agree with you 100%

and last time I checked small displacement v-8s were making upwards of 700hp with FI

Thank you for proving my point exactly. The Z's engine can make 500+ whp on stock block and small displacement v-8s can easily do 700. It will take a seriously built 4 banger to put up those kind of numbers and I am skeptical it would even be possible on pump gas.

I have to ask, do you know anything about building power?

Forced induction with DI on a moderate displacement engine (2.5L roughly) 4 or 6 seems likely what we will see. Hopefully the internals are done well like on more recent VQ's so the stock short block will hold together when you turn up the boost.

I would hope with a factory FI option, it would be built to handle more boost. It should provide much better bang for your buck in terms of just bolt on mods with a tune. That is what a large majority of people get anyways.

I just read this article.... lol. You gotta be kiddin me???? This is all wild speculation with anti-Z bias.

1) How is this the worst Z ever if it killed every weakness in the 350z?
2) 5.1 on a good day???????? Who is driving? Is this all the manual Z can throw??? If so i'm glad i got the automatic but i believe on a good day the manual can do A LOT better.

But i'm sure these a-holes drive like this guy. Learn to drive!!!!!!

I hope Z weaknesses are further improved without selling out the car for what it is. all will happen if they go smaller engine and low power is people will complain due to the downgrade. What people are complaining about today will make the Z34 a legend tomorrow.

I highly doubt a 4 cyl will be installed. I vote a smaller displacement V6 with twin turbos. Possibly a VR30DETT or VQ30HRTT? Nissan has all of the components between the 350Z HR, 370Z and the GT-R to make an interesting, lightweight and powerful engine package.

Whatever they do I just hope they make sure it's a better power to weight ratio than the current 370z. If they can do what the BMW M5 did I would be pretty happy.
But perhaps like Dustin said, a small 6 cylinder rather than a big 6. The car could def use some weigh lose. Nissan does worry me though when they want the next Z to widen up the customer base: meaning they are looking to make the car more practical with a 4 seater. I'm not a big fan of that at all because that's what the G37 is for.

Is it true that they may not make a new GT-R? I think Nissan at this point has not given any green light for R&D to start the development nor is it in the plan. They said they are putting more emphasis on this next Z.

It seems to me they will be retrying the Z32 formula without selling out 240z roots. which may be interesting??? As long as v6/v6tt options are avail

That means they would offer both 2 and 4 seater versions. Infiniti already said 2 years ago that they will be swaying away from the fairlady and skyline kinship. They will be two separate cars altogether in the future.

My main concern... with the yen and dollar going in two different directions, AGAIN!!! we better buy the Z35 in the first two years. Otherwise, we may see a $20,000 jump over 6 years just like the Z32. Sometimes I think these economic destabilizations are rigged purposely between gov'ts and corporations.

The GT-R... I think it will be a JDM only car again after 2014.
