Default Alarm Recommendation?

I'm really trying hard not to drop $500 on an alarm and installation, but I don't want to make a pointless investment on something too cheap.

I know there are numerous threads on this, I just can't seem to make a decision.

I want a simple alarm with tilt sensors, a pager on the remote, and one that is proven to prevent theft/vandalism.

Long story short, I had have recently moved and I absolutely do not trust anyone in my neighborhood. It's to the point that it's not car theft I'm worried about, it's vandals. In fact, just a month ago my car was hit in the parking lot (I was parked towards the back, next to NO other cars) and I was hit. Had my pager gone off, I would have had enough time to run out and catch the suspect.

Alas, I am now 100+ dollars poorer getting a fender dent removed.

So anyway, I'd like to prevent any further lost sleep with my baby sitting out front (I have no garage).

The great part is that there is very little traffic or pedestrians, so it shouldn't be going off too much. I just really need the peace of mind.

I like the reviews on this system, but am afraid it will be overkill:

http://www.amazon.com/Viper-5902-Res...8847681&sr=1-1

Second choice:

Amazon.com: VIPER 5704V FULL FEATURE CAR ALARM WITH REMOTE START AND 2-WAY PAGER: Electronics

I am also confused on what to get *with* the system alone. It seems like many reviewers mention to get certain accessories, but being naive I want to get exactly what I need to tackle this install (including pro installer).

I greatly appreciate any advice.

No alarm system would save you from this. You have to move out and find a place with a closed garage.

You do realized you're living next to Palmdale, right? An overly sensor alarm would just scream "hit me" over there. I mean, are you really gonna chase a kid down?

i had some issues with vandals recently. bought a security camera that records anyone around my car. actually caught some mofos systematically walking through the neighborhood looking into cars with flashlights and stealing crap out of unlocked cars last week with it. they stole some **** out of a neighbor's cars (left them unlocked by accident) so i gave him a copy of the video to report to the police.

Nothing will stop a vandal. Automatic lights and visible cameras are the best deterrents even if the camera is a broken one just put a blinky red led next to it and people will think it's live and move to some non lighted area with no camera to cause trouble.

Waste of money if you're worried about vandals. They'll be gone before you can do anything about it. There should be very little fear of someone being able to actually steal your Z. Wheels on the other hand, that's a different story.

Good ole tilt sensors, impact sensors near bottom of frame, and odd wheel locks.

This.

A tilt sensor is cheap, a shock (aka impact) sensor is included with all alarms, and wheel locks are easy to do.

You could get a proximity sensor, but I really only recommend them for convertibles.

Well, it would be nice to know when someone is near my car and to get a page on my key FOB.

Anyhow, I'm not planning on living here more than a few months. So far the worst part of living here is birds crapping all over my car, so I'm gonna cover her up for now and hold off on the alarm.

Thanks for all the advice.

goodluck shadax. put a good coat of polymer sealant on the paint and glass. yes, most sealants work well on glass. keep it off rubber seals though.
