Oh, things will work out. We've been going through this for the last 5 or so years. It the auto industry, this stuff happens. I just find humor in the corporate propaganda.... Quality, productivity, cost saving, concessions will save jobs... Blah, blah, blah. Then they close the plants that do everything right. They have more white shirts walking around that plant than people building cars.

You guys in the US have been hit hard with the Auto manufacturing cuts too, so you are well aware of the situation.

A Japanese company (Toyota) and an American company (GM)
decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams
practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before
the race.

On the big day, the Japanese won by an entire mile.

The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to
investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team
made up of senior management was formed to investigate and
recommend appropriate action.

Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person
steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person
rowing.

Feeling a deeper study was in order, American management hired a
consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a
second opinion.

They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat,
while not enough people were rowing.

Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent
another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team’s management structure
was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering superintendents, and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.

They also implemented a new performance system that would give the
1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called
the ‘Rowing Team Quality First Program,’ with meetings, dinners, and
free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting new paddles,
canoes, and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses.

The next year the Japanese won by TWO miles.

Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor
performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved
was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next year’s
racing team was out-sourced to India .

Sadly………….. The End.




Yep, sad but not totally unexpected. They sat on their hands for too long and let the tech pass them by. They didn't react to the trends fast enough now they're paying the price. Time to hire more management.

I used to work down the road from RIM. I made a lot of money from the people working at RIM back in the early start-up days (10-12 years ago). Hopefully they can get the ship turned around and get back on course.

Now watch the government hike taxes to compensate for all the lost revenue.

At our hospital we have an issue with too much overtime. So administration in all their wisdom 1) Removed all the LPNs from the regular floors. 2) Adopted a "fit test" to weed out incoming nurses that the test says don't "fit" into the area they applied to. 3) Hired a consultant firm to tell them their processes area wasting time, which they have made no time saving changes. 4) After merging with a hospital loosing money they adopted their computer system. 5) Added a medication dispersion system that takes twice the time to dispense meds. WTH is all upper management brain dead???
