EDIT: that's my thing with gun laws. Illinois no concealed weapon laws and hard to get a license to own one, but they hand out driver's licenses to everybody just like that. A 16 year old with a car is more deadly then a guy carrying a gun. [end of rant]

:iagree:

The Conti DWSs have given me too much confidence in the rain.

I actually had my VDC on at the time. It certainly contributed to the situation.

yah, that's another thing to watch out for when changing suspension setting. unless your car is planted with good sticky tires, it makes the VDC all confused. especially if you were expecting to turn the car with throttle... :icon14:

Yeah, I'd imagine VDC would encourage understeer. When I stepped on the throttle I was prepared for the back to go out but wanted to see if VDC would let it happen and sure enough, it did. Regained control pretty quickly but realised I really don't like the unpredictability VDC adds. Also adds confidence to people not prepaired for sh*t to go wrong.

Something to think about... How many of us grew up driving rear wheel drive vs. front wheel drive? I got my license driving a RWD car

KingZee 04-26-2012 12:53 PM

I went FW, AW, FW, RW

started out FF, then AWD (hello mega understeer wrx), and landed RWD.

m4a1mustang 04-26-2012 01:00 PM

I started with RWD. Had a FWD car for a while when I was doing a lot of commuting.

ZMan8 04-26-2012 01:06 PM

first car was FWD and now I have RWD & FWD

Alchemy 04-26-2012 02:28 PM

I have owned a lot of everything. First car was a 1984 300zx, lame but when I was 17 I thought I was the sh1t. Learned how to drive stick and in snow the first few months having my licence since my bday is in December.

Mt Tam I am 04-26-2012 02:50 PM

I've owned alot of cars in my life time, and every single one was RWD, one was rear engined and the rest front engine.

I've driven FWD cars and when push comes to shove, I know how to deal with RWD in a pinch. FWD I only know in theory. Keep those wheels spinning.

This old dog is not looking to learn a new trick, but with automatics and AWD becoming the way of the world, I may be forced to learn anyways.

kenchan 04-26-2012 02:51 PM

i think all the stores went to  zzzzz....

the heck is going on here?

onzedge 04-26-2012 03:07 PM

Please excuse the off-topic nature of this post, but I felt like sharing something with you all.

Colin, my first son and onzedge wannabe, got his then girlfriend and now fiancé in a family way back in December. They told us in January the big news that they are expecting -- with a due date of September 8. After congratulations and hugs went around the room, I asked him "how did this happen?". I caught myself just as the last words exited my dense skull. Anyway, I digress.

Today they discovered the gender and I am going to have a granddaughter. Hmm. With my other son Taylor (techfracture), also a gearhead and Z car fanatic, Colin, and me as role models, the possibilities of what she will become as a person make my head swim. Anyway, her name shall be Faye Allen Clark. Everyone nixed "Katayama", which was one of my suggestions.

Well. There you go.

kenchan 04-26-2012 03:12 PM

mr.onzedge- congrats to your future granddaughter!

Good Afternoon Mr.kenchan!!

Such a busy day in the lab and I was reading posts from you guys and pages keep adding up.. LOL

It is very funny that a lot of manufactures setup the FWD car so it can turn in and reduce understeer and for those RWD manufactures they try to induce understeer therefore easier/safer to drive.....

:icon17:

It's good to be productive, though!

And while I have you 3 fans. here [and all the rest of you], happy 1,000 posts to me!

kenchan 04-26-2012 03:49 PM

hello, mr.alcheng! yah, honestly some of the best handling cars out there are FF... like my old modded cooper-s and even the Fit i had that had coilovers, etc. would handle the turns faster if downhill touge than the Z. :) once you start adding power (uphill touge) to FF it just understeers terribly even with lsd. hahahaha. :icon17:
