Thanks for posting this. I found the Car and Driver article to be rather interesting considering I currently own a 1973 240z.

You're very welcome.

Did you notice things that are similar to the present Z like, them saying its not worth revving past 5500rpm and how they were saying its build quality is equal to cars double the price? It seems nissan stayed true to the Z for both good and bad. Lol. But also its the american view vs the world view. Obviously handling quirks have been improved. I found it funny there were brake issues even back then... Reading this article just shows the Z's perception hasn't changed as a new car.
It almost seems like the Z gets more respect as time passes. People in the current market seem to find more flaws in the present. Then as time passes they became more appreciated. It seems to be true of every Z except Gen 3. But they fired Mr. K and nissan went a totally different FAIL direction.

As much as I love my new 370z, it will never come close to replacing the spot in my heart reserved for my 77 280Z. The first gen Z's have this soul that modern cars will never be able to replicate. In fact, I think I will spend the day working on my 77 today. I'm so close to having her back on the road.

See, that's how I feel about the Z32. I've had an 08 350z. Then I went to a 1990 300zx NA, and now the 73 240. I keep debating on whether I want a 300zx TT or a 370z next. The 300 keeps calling though.

HA HA. Yeah they are not flush and sit at an angle. They make up for their fault in their alignment with excellent, long distance light.

Thanks for the compliment also.

While the 240 - 300zx sports cars looked great on the outside , only the 240 and 260 really looked good, both inside and out.

If you look at the road test data a 16.1 sec. 1/4 mile is a joke, an average plain jane chevy impala or or olds V8 350 could do a lot better and even a 1972 honda cb350 that would do about a 15 sec 1/4 mile and only 85mph top.

You could picture Tony with beret &, sharks tooth pendant , just picked up his new 240z. On the drive home he pulls up next to a chevy 350 impala wagon loaded down with 3 kids and 2 adults and groceries. He decides to race the wagon, and he is shocked how he was easily blown off by a family wagon.

I test drove a 240z and 280z back in the late 90's before I bought my aniversarry turbo 300zx and to be quite honest the 240Zand 280Z were really dogs in terms of performance. Only the 300zx turbo made enough power 200hp to even consider it a a reasonable sports car and I only kept it about 6 months, before I bought a c4 vette with 285hp.

You really need at least 250hp in a sports car today to even make it entertaining to drive and own. The Mazda RX8 is a good example.

Geesh, I remember those days. Had a '68 Mercury Cougar XR7 with 302 and four speed, headers etc... and my friend had a pumped up 240Z, headers, cam, etc... that would ever so slightly beat out my Cougar. In the mountains, it laid waste to my Cougar. We had a lot of fun in those days and as you can see I became a fan back in the mid 70's of Z's. Out of all the sports cars I've owned the Z's have been the most reliable and fuel efficent. Not that a little more power isn't nice it's just not the strong suit for a Z.

I still love my V8's but the Z's are easy to live with on a daily basis and give you a lot of performance / realiability for the money.

I'd love to get a 240Z Scarab someday.... just not sure how it would handle. I figure it can be balanced out. I'd like to see a LS3 in a 240Z. That would be really kewl!

Talk abut tech, I think those 84 AE had more tech packed in them than any other Z made... That then at the time amazing Digital dash heck everything was digital for that matter, bodysonic seats etc etc. Saw one last week in amazing shape cruising around with a guy with a nice/sharp 82 or 83 280zx Turbo.

It's pretty funny reading about only having like 160hp. Even a small 2.0 liter NA can make over 200hp today, of course not as much torque but for that you always need displacement or turbos. The 370Z is my first Z and I'm loving it.
