If I have not gone 3,000 miles, would it be ok to change my oil after 6 months?

I personally would get the oil changed earlier than Nissans suggested mileage when you're putting on the cars first miles. I had my first oil change within the first 1000 miles and then the second in the next 1000 miles as I wanted to make sure to rid my oil of any metal shavings while the engine broke in. How long has the current oil been in the car? Rule of thumb... Even if a car is sitting, I'd never let it go past a year without an oil change.
I thought these cars came with a special oil from the dealership that helps facilitate the break in process? As in you shouldn't chagne the oil early unless the car has been in storage etc

I changed mine at 400 miles then again at 1400 miles. Its good to change out the oil and keep the crap out of the engine as it breaks itself in. As far as storage, I always change the oil when mine comes out of storage in the spring.

That's not true. Nissan ester oil may or may not have any extra properties to it. I haven't used it since it came from the factory. I'm using Agip Super Synthetic and the car runs better. I can't imagine why anyone would use it with some of the superior oils out there costing less...

For what it's worth, I rode sport bikes for years and they were always stored in the winter with fresh oil in them. Leaving dirty oil full of acids and crap sitting in there in storage is not good. Change your oil before putting in storage.

If you were going to put the car away for 3 months then I would say it would be all right to leave the oil in it. But if its going to be stored for any long period of time 6 months or more than the oil should be changed and a fresh filter installed, you can even put in cheap oil if the car will be serviced before it is put back on the road.

The thing with leaving old oil in a car in storage is that there is a lot of containiments in the used oil and also moisture that can corrode or damage metal surfaces inside your engine.

The experts will tell you to actually change your oil before the car is stored for any long period of time, along with draining the gas tank, or at least putting Stabile in your gas. Tranny and rear end are fine to leave alone , just make sure they are topped off, before storage.

Yeah, it wasn't stored for a prolonged period of time. Every 3 weeks I would drive it about 100 miles.
