Mine failed a couple weeks ago. 17,500 miles on 2010 roadster, rev c. Replaced with rev. d under warranty. The bill to Nissan was around $850 + $85 to my insurance co for the tow. Now has the bypass harness installed for piece of mind.

Don't forget people. If it fails with the windows or top down, you cannot put them up.

And I thought getting out of the C-5 would get me away for steering lock issues.

Yeah, mine went out last week while I was at a gas station 100 miles away from home. Luckily a few smacks with a pair of pliers and it retracted and I yanked the fuse out.

I too can't beleive this is still an issue. I got my 2009 back in April with 11K on it. I was on this website during my lunch at work and read a thread about this problem and solution and got up, went out to the parking lot and pulled the fuse. Took me about 10 minutes. The steering lock isn't going to protect you anyway. If someone wants to steal your car bad enough, they will.
I had a friend with a MKIV Supra with 20 K worth of mods. One night when he was at the Olive Garden , a flat bed pulled up and drug his car across the asphalt and on to the truck. It was all locked up tight along with the steering wheel.
Its useless

The exact name of the fuse on the box is Steering Lock. It is a 10A red fuse.

mine went out over the weekend had to get the car towed.

$1300 to fix at the dealership

so the tally: $1500 for ac compressor last month, $1300 for the steering wheel lock, Clutch is going out(CsC or syncros) another $1500 by the end of this month..... im starting to hate this car

so i got the car towed back home today i wasnt about to have it towed to the stealership, i planned on fixing it myself. as soon as the tow truck left i figured id mess around with the assembly a lil bit. since it was already broke, i took the back side of my monkey wrench to that pos. and hit it harder just thinking about how i was going to have to pay about $600 bucks to replace it. guess that did the trick the car unlocked and started too because i was pushing the start button very fast. kept the car running and went to pull the fuse BUT IT WAS ALREADY GONE!

anyway i could always hear the steering lock working when i got in and out of the car so to make sure i disabled it, i cut the brown wire as suggested in one of the forums. no more noise of the lock when im getting in and out of the car and it shuts of and starts fine.

so i still need to get a back up steering lock JUST IN CASE. but thank god i got that thing to unlock one more time so i could disable it. im still not wanting to take the car far away from home for a while just to make sure its good to go. any questions just send a PM.

For real the fuse was already gone? First time I think I have seen that on any of the threads, that is just f#cked up! I hope everything keeps working for you! With the wire cut there should be no more issues, just listen to see if you hear the noise for the next few starts and shut offs as long as you don't hear it then I wouldn't worry about it any more......... GL and hope it stays off!
