i agree completely, hense the title of my DIY. :icon17:

the push button start is not the issue, it is the steering lock so even with a normal key the same will happen. i would be interested in someone making a steering lock bypass module like they did for the vetts. :)

yah, even if you have RevC chances are MUCH better for you vs RevA and RevB. at one point RevC was Nissan's solution for fixing the GTR's...and ive not read about repeat issues, so keeping my fingers crossed.

So I looked at mine at lunch and it has a B

What does this mean, that they switched out my part for an old used one??

370zproject 01-25-2012 12:53 PM

 or they never changed it...

Jasonle 01-25-2012 01:02 PM

thats what im afraid of! damn!

bjblackout 01-25-2012 01:04 PM

Kenchan what would you do?? Can I prove in any way that they replaced it with a new one?? Since mine is a B is that proof enough or are there still ones with B being shipped??

Or do I just act like I know nothing and wait for it to fail again??

No, they should not be shipping B units anymore. They have been superseded by C, which was superseded by D. From my understanding, the B units are still susceptible to failure.

Is there a manufacture date on the sticker?

bjblackout 01-25-2012 01:29 PM

Good question, I didn't look that close.

does your invoice state the part that was replaced?

if not, i would go back to the dealer and ask to show you the steering lock they pulled out of the car. i guess that's one way to tell if they swapped it or not.

dont know the inventory levels at the nissan service warehouses so do not know how many RevB's are still out there.

if they did not swap it out it will probably fail again soon so just be on the look out i guess... use a sharpie or something to mark a dot or something on the corner somewhere. (this is sounding like a jiffylube investigation i saw on TV... lol :D )

bjblackout 01-25-2012 01:44 PM

Thanks

bjblackout 01-25-2012 02:11 PM

Funny I just called my Nissan dealer parts dept and asked for the part # for the steering lock and they gave me 48700JF00D

Funny I just left dealership yesterday with a new steering lock and it has a B where the D is.

what does your invoice say? if it says 48700JF00D you can show them that they installed the wrong part.

sounds fishy to me

kenchan 01-25-2012 03:15 PM

i have a feeling the car cure itself while it was towed... it's been known to happen. then strikes again soon after.

bj- if you did not get an invoice, talk to your service advisor for the work order number and tell him to print it up. it has to have history of wat parts were ordered and installed. paperwork dont just dissappear.

I just received a LAME phone call from a Customer Service Representative telling me that they are making a file on my complaint.

Like that is going to solve the problem...

I had a feeling this was going to happen. Maybe they still had some REVB locks in stock in their parts dept... didn't you say they only had your car there for a couple days?

I would suggest anyone who gets their steering lock replaced by the dealership to double check and verify what version they are putting in.

Search for a Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

For those experienced this issue, please register your complaint to NHTSA. Only way to get some traction on a recall for this steering lock issue. Right now, only 3 complaints for 2009-2011 370z. I am positive there are many many more based on the forum chats, but you need to file a complaint to get this issue noticed by nissan usa.

Good! Did you get Rev.D?

rtrono 02-02-2012 08:29 PM

Just got mine back. The parts list says 48700-JF00D. After reading this I am going to look at the part and make sure it is a rev D. I also had them fix the hatch. I had to fight them on that because they couldn't duplicate. I showed them the TSB and told them it happens every morning when I leave at 3:30. Maybe they should try to duplicate it then. They fixed it.

diddy535 02-17-2012 04:11 PM

mine just went outside of a coffee shop on 2/5 -- car was fixed the next day, so they definitely have parts around the country. so sad, i just got my z back in december

kenchan 02-17-2012 04:14 PM

diddy check which revision is on your car. if it's still RevA or RevB the car temporary fixed itself and will go out again.

if they gave you RevD, then

diddy535 02-24-2012 09:53 AM

How can I tell what they did? Dealer said they gave it a new part so I'd assume it's the D?

Nick911sc 02-24-2012 09:55 AM

If you look at the unit you can see what Rev it is.

kenchan 02-24-2012 09:56 AM

ck out my DIY in the DIY section. :)

diddy535 02-25-2012 12:31 PM

I found the part number on my receipt:

48700-JF00D

Does the D at the end indicate its a Rev D?

Yes, you have the proper (newest) version of the lock mechanism.

2009 and some early 2010 models. Never heard of it happening on an 11 or 12.

It is not an issue on the 2012's because Nissan eliminated steering column locks on the Z's (and maybe other models) beginning with 2012.
