if you had the lock failure be sure to file a complaint here

https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

there have been many reports of this failure on this forum alone if everyone files the complaint the government will force the recall

I didn't really have time to read through all the info on that site, but it seems its for safety complaints. I don't know if this particular issue will considered a safety issue.

I would think anytime a major component on an automobile fails it could be considered a safety issue

Worth a shot. Even though mine hasn't failed (yet) I'll still make a complaint

Did you get your car back yet... Didn't it fail recently? Just trying to gage if there is any difference in b/o of parts in kali or not. Hopefully, I won't have the problem.

I'm also amazed that Nissan covered the OP's car at all. The car looks like it is raced and that generally voids the warantee. At least in my case with the 350Z it did.

bjblackout 01-23-2012 12:09 PM

Talked to the dealership today and they said they would give me a loaner which I am happy for but if they said no we were going to have a big problem anyway.

Service advisor stated that she could not give me a date when part would be in. Said it could be two weeks or up to two months. I have never heard of anything like this ever in my life!!!

I picked up my jerry-rigged Z and brought it home Saturday. It is going to sit and wait in my garage until the part comes in which will be God only knows (and he is guessing).

jerry rigged? is it drivable? what did they do? did you try Kenchan's tapping technique?

The tech plugged in a module from an Altima and zip tied it up out of the way. It is driveable, but it has the key error light on. I am not driving it though because it makes me crazy having any kind of warning light on (except the flashing traction or VDC Off lights).

I have it home in my garage and still have the free loaner Versa.

It's so strange yours is a rev c and failed, I thought the problem was supposed to be fixed? If the Rev C's and D's are faulty Nissan is going to have a very expensive problem on their hands

i think it's an isolated case of yet another failure type... but we wont know for sure until the dealer send that unit back to nissan. i haven't read any other RevC failure so it could have just been that one particular unit.

i doubt nissan will disclose the details to the public (aka GTR owners) either. :wtf2:

In case anyone's interested, pretty much all 40ths were built between December and February:

+-------+-------------+-----------------+-----+
| Prod  | VIN         | Range           | Num |
+-------+-------------+-----------------+-----+
| 12/09 | JN1AZ4EH_AM | 501627 - 501817 | 184 |
| 01/10 | JN1AZ4EH_AM | 501819 - 502520 | 622 |
| 02/10 | JN1AZ4EH_AM | 502522 - 502758 | 194 |
+-------+-------------+-----------------+-----+

There were a few built outside that range, but these are the 1000 for North America (US).

(sorry to thread-jack)

hey z_girl, since you have a 2012 would you do us a favor and take a look under your steering column to see if your car has this unit? you or your guy friend or whoever.

you would have to stick you head completely under the steering column/dash area to see this. TIA!

The 40ths were all built within 3 months. The other cars aren't like that and were built for the entire year. Are you looking for a breakdown of how many like that were built each month? Or did you want to know when your car was built?

kenchan 01-24-2012 04:02 PM

special editions usually have the same bill of materials so im assuming if mr.onzedge's car was running RevC, all 40th's would.

A guy friend?...:barf: lol j/k

I went out and checked just for you :p and - no unit. I think it was onzedge who made a comment a few days ago confirming 2012 doesn't have the steering lock when he had his issues, they were trying swap his out and couldn't cause it was '12 they had on the lot.

Hope that helps!

Awesome, +Rep for checking. Yeah, onzedge was told by his dealer that the '12's did not have the steering lock unit.
