I was fortunate to get a piece with good fitment though, because if not, some sort of adhesive would definitely have been needed. The guy I bought them from said the shop that installed his used silicon but that when they uninstalled it it took off some paint. But if silicon were used I don't think there is a need for drilling a hole in your rear bumper, so it's up to you. Basically whether you will be happy with it stuck on there and realize its just gonna need a little touch up from a paint shop if you ever remove it. In my case, I could just have the small hole filled and paint matched. No biggie either way I suppose. Hope this helps
