Sales Totals 350 & 370 Z

Thanks for info. So 30,000 370 Z's on the road less totaled= ? I have no clue, but we might have a minor collectible on our hands some day.

Collectible... I doubt it. But it will definitely hold value better than the 350 did.

but if another Z is not put into production our cars could be somewhat rare. I mean I barely see any in NY myself. Maybe 1 or 2 a week at most.

Yeah... seeing one on a weekly or monthly occasion isn't really rare. To be fair, they're not as common as a Toyota Celica, but our cars aren't exactly 'rare' - the number of 370Z's sold pretty much prove that. While there are, indubitably, regional differences that may make it seem like a 'rare' car (I mean, how many 370Z's do you expect to find in the more snow-ridden areas of the U.S.? Or Central Africa? Or even China?). A rare car is one that you rarely see (yes, that's a tautology, deal with it), and great examples of these cars are, as Red mentioned earlier, supercars - when was the last time you saw a Ford GT, or and even a NSX?

Our cars are at best uncommon... uncommonly AWESOME.

In terms of popularity, the AT has a better chance of being a collectible than the MT. There just aren't that many women who drive the 370.

Page after page since I made the comment "we might have a minor collectible on our hands some day"

I have an Jaguar XKE of which total production was 72,000. Unquestionably collectible. If 370 production stops around 30-40,000 units, why would it not be a minor collectible.

dAvenue has a rationale:

Good point, but I'm not going to total mine today with an AT just to make it collectible later.

Funny you say this... I was thinking that yesterday. With the refresh kind of going backwards in a copycat design. The original front fascia of the current 370z may possibly be a collectible. Whenever you have a car of this engine size, performance and displacement combined with its pricing, it is bound to be a collectible. Car and driver can write all the brake issues they want. We know no one else except them has had such a catostropic experience. We also know a mild mod will help the issue.
Many a classic muscle car had serious issues in its day. And now today those issues are part of their collectible charm. DIY and correcting issues is part of the car culture as a whole... The Z platform is still among the best of the breed and I definately see collectible potential. Flaws and all.

30000 units means in a decade this car WILL be rare.

So far the mustang holds value better, but that is in no way relevant to the thread

The 350 has actually held value pretty impressively. A lot of people look at the low prices, and forget that they are looking at examples that are 9+ years old, and have over 100k....

In contrast, the 3 year residual for the 370 is about 53%.

Of course, value will largely depend on what happens going forward. The 350 would be holding value even better had the 370 not come out...and even though you guys hate to hear, the 370 would be doing better had other cars not received big improvements.
The s2000 took a price hit when the 370 roadster turned out to be much cooler than the 350, and you can't really predict stuff like that.
