at the end of the day the sales person is a person. treat them well and they return something back. if they dont treat you well, nothing's stopping one from walking out and shopping around elsewhere.

The sales person doesn't need to be kissing your *** but they absolutely should treat you with respect. Their job, how they put bread on the table, is selling you a car. No one has sold me anything by acting like a jerk to me.

I went to two Nissan dealerships. The first experience was not good. The salesman obviously was pre-occupied, we ran out of gas on the test drive at which point he got out of the car and waited around back for another salesman with a gas can to drive over from the dealership (it would have been better for him to use that time to show me the interior features and apologize for not fueling the vehicle).

He then refused to budge on the price. I said "Thanks, call me"

The next day, I walked into a different dealership. The salesman came right over to me and I expressed that I wanted a Z. He said that he'd work with me and do whatever he could to get me into a Z that day.

The salesman took me for a test drive before talking about ANYTHING else. We drove around for a few minutes. When we got back in, I gave him a number. He said it might not be workable - went to his boss, came back and said "ok, let's sign some papers". Very pleasant, he introduced me to everyone, got me a snack while we waited, and bought me a few key fobs.

Will I go back to that dealership? Yep. Will I tell my family to go there? Yep. Will I ever go back to the first one? Hell no.

Make them earn your business. If they don't want it, throw birds at them and walk out.
