Not all crashes/incidents make it to the database carfax uses. Sometimes there's no insurance claim (buy it in cash, no full coverage, fix it in cash, nobody else involved, etc). Major accidents sure, it's rare someone fixes that in cash to try to resell, it's kind of a lost cause.

But minor stuff can be tricky, e.g. water damage and the guy just replaced the carpets but didn't fix wiring issues, or a rear end hit where he just replaced the bumper cover to make it look ok, but there's frame damage hiding underneath screwing up alignment.

One still has factory warranty - what is that worth to you?

It's a coin toss. Are they both at the same dealer? If so they are probably going to deal on the high miles first. If not than work them against each other to get the best deal. Just be willing to take the high mile car if one isn't willing to deal.

When shopping for a used car you can never trust what anyone says about how they drove their vehicle. Lower miles is usually the safer bet, but not always the case. One thing I look for is how well kept the car is inside. I am meticulous about not getting anything inside scuffed or scratched, and the same goes with the outside of the car (but that's nothing a $100+ detail job can't fix). This can tell you how much the previous owner loved and took care of the car. It's just my opinion, when I see scratches inside, it tells me the owner did not love his/her car.

I bought in the Winter, January, off of this forum. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get the deal to go through.

The car was titled in New York
There was a lien on the car.
I drove out of state twice which took 10hrs round trip.
A LOT of trust to make the deal go through (being I had to pay for the loan first before picking it up)

In the end. I ended up with an awesome car.
