How about NO wheel lock key?

My car had been used by the original dealer at auto shows, so they had zooted it up with all the Nissan aftermarket parts, including the wheel locks. It wasn't until after I'd had it for awhile that my son noticed that it had wheel locks. Tearing the car apart....no removal socket, probably sitting in a saleman's desk drawer at the original dealership. Seems like it would be easy to just order a replacement, doesn't it? They matched my locks to their master key set, but apparently ordering the replacement is impossible. The service manager finally tried to talk me out of the locks altogether and replace the them with standard lug nuts. I told him I'd be happy to sell them to him for the $50 they tacked onto the sticker, he decided it would be cheaper for them to pay dealer cost for a whole new set. And thanks to this site, I was able to make sure they weren't the 350Z locks.

Hmmm.....
Once the Dealer determined which key you needed by using the Master Key Set, all they have to do is call McGard and order a replacement key for you.

That would make sense, but there were no markings whatsoever on the individual lock keys in the master set, no way to know what to order. The guy actually showed me the key that fit my set...I looked it over carefully and I had to agree that there were no numbers, letters, or anything that set that key apart from any of the other 7 in the kit.

Pretty much depends where you live. If you live around New York and park in your driveway then yes you need them unless you want to come out in the morning to see your car on blocks. Up in New England I don't worry about it, criminals up here are far too lazy to go to all that trouble.

Oh... and one more thing.

After they finished removing the wheel lock and mounted the spare, an associate said "your 350Z is ready." I'm about to leave when I notice those idiots didn't at least put a regular lug to replace the wheel locks Basically, I had two wheel locks on the front wheels that has the potential to shatter killing small animals and two rear wheels held on with 4 lugs. Nothing catastrophic, but still...common sense tells me the correct number is 5.

It took all of ten minutes to put on a new "correct" set of wheel locks all around.

They had to order the tire, so I hope I have better luck this Saturday when they install in. I really hope my wheel isn't FUBR from them removing the lock.
