![]() Personally, I take my cars to the dealer for service because they will go to bat for me if I'm a regular customer. You run into a warranty issue, you're way ahead of the game if your on the books as a good regular maintenance customer. So on that note, I'd gladly pay $1100 to have that installed by them vs. some other unit installed by someone else a couple hundred bucks cheaper. That $300 is cheap insurance (as is the $39 labor for an oil change) when you're looking at a 6K short block. |

Be careful and understand what is being warranted. Nissan unusually has a 10 k warranty on there accessories installed by a certified dealer. So your $800 oil cooler is covered if it has problems. But I don't believe they will cover problems to the engine caused by add-ons. Even their own oil cooler.

Nissan official response:
"Nissan North America: The 370Z has an engine protection system that reduces peak engine speeds when the oil temperature exceeds recommended levels in order to protect against possible engine damage. Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370. An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item. The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty."

I say do it!
It'd be my first purchase if I got a 370z Nismo!

Yeah, sweet! Do it and waste money!
OP: They just want to take you to the cleaners, dude. I doubt that little oil cooler is even big enough to handle a proper HPDE. The price they are charging is through the roof, and they even threw in the injector cleaning thinking they had a sucker on their hands. And nothing personal, but the fact that you came here and posted asking if you actually needed it (the injector cleaning) or not, means you probably dont even need the oil cooler anyway. Unless you're actually taking your car to the track, of course.

I was following some of the Japanese blogs for a while and the consensus they seemed to all arrive at was the temp solution was threefold:
ARC was addressing the problem with a long, but not high, angled longitudinal oil cooler to aid in not disrupting the oil level reading, plus allow the oil to be constantly in the loop versus the other solutions we've seen. Nissan response to the North American market has been to source stateside regular stocking items into a kit form; neither a proper nor a comprehensive solution in my eyes.

Performance Motorsports in NY is doing a great deal on oil cooler kits!
I don't know which sizes because they offer 3; it would be better! I know their deals are with installation and I've only heard great things about them. But I do understand you are in Canada and that may be a far drive. Oil cooler is definetly a need on the list of parts for the 370Z if you are a serious driver and care about the Z.

Fuel Injector Service: Don't let dealers do it. Especially on a new(er) car. Buy a bottle of Techron, the size that treats 20 gal. of fuel. It runs about $8. Drive your car until the low fuel warning light comes on, pull into a gas station, add the Techron to the near empty tank, fill up, and do it again every 5K miles. You will likely never need fuel injector service by a dealer.
You are welcome. |

Just thought I would add I drove glendora mountain road again (took a vid this time) and even though I was reving it more than before the oil temps never got above 235 F with the oil cooler (they maxed out at that a couple minutes into it and stayed at about that level).
Considering my normal oil temp is around 170-180 ish I was honestly surprised it went that high as I wasn't expecting it to go over 230. |
