Body shop FAILURE!

Wait, so they never had your original bumper to begin with as a guide? If they just ordered a new unpainted OEM from Nissan how would they know any different?

Google a picture of a NISMO. There are plenty to go by.

You do have a valid point...BUT I did offer photo's, they declined...AND!...

They are a professional body shop, after the first **** up and the second bumper was ordered...coming in grey, they then looked up their info...from where I don't know. I DO know I used the same type of directions when I built plastic models as a kid, worked great then...maybe I should start painting cars!

Now that I see the bumper, I could understand why that "mistake" could happen. This what happens if the body shop isn't careful or is very unfamiliar with the car.

It's not primered, it's just gray plastic

Angry

So I guess I’m not out of this yet. It has been around a month since the repairs so I decided to wax the parts that had been replaced. To my wonderful surprise I am looking at the black section....WHITE SPECS!!! I grabbed my camera and took some macro shots and sure enough there is Pearl White paint shining from every tiny rock chip...Mother &#$^ERS! I immediately sent my pictures in with an e-mail to the manager asking what hell was up with this. He emails me back saying that they do not warranty again rock chips...now I’m pissed!!! I called him directly and had a long conversation. He proposed a new fix...remove the bumper, paint another coat of black and install a clear bra....WHAT!!! I was so mad at this point I was trying to keep my cool and not start yelling. I began pointing back to the fact that....

1) The original bumper was sprayed all white...car was taken home and then returned for one more week to correct.

2) The manager made a proposal to remove white paint before painting black and DIDN"T...I feel I was lied to...

3) The paint schematic, provided from Nissan was not followed, actually not even researched until receiving the second bumper.

4) I am now in a bad situation because I have no more trust or confidence that this will be done correctly. And I can't really go anywhere else without a lawsuit and a third party.

5) Its not even about a warranty, I had been patient and willing to compromise, in return I was lied to! I was given damaged goods in the first place...you can't warranty that!

The Manager's very first proposal one month ago was to either replace the entire section or REMOVE the paint from the center section and paint black. At that time we were both under the impression that the center section was black plastic, not paint. My opt was to replace, the manager agreed...kind of have to with black plastic.

The bumper comes a week later we and find out that it is primer grey (why didn't they call and find out in the first place?). I agree in not using a brand new piece and stick the original piece, REMOVING the white center section and painting black.

After a week the manager guarantee’s the work will be done by the following Monday. I also explained that I will be going on a one week expedition through Death Valley on that Tuesday; he assured me it would be ready and everything should work out. Monday comes, no car, Tuesday, no car, Thursday we are in the middle of no where...no cell phone reception...middle of Death Valley...car will have to wait.

We get back from our trip, pick the car....looks great...couple noise's here and there with the under carriage, I went through and identified and fixed.

1,000miles later, white rock chips, and he's telling me it's not under warranty!!

So the manager I think got his head together and realized there is a pretty good case developing and says that he will order a new bumper and have it done right. He also says his parts manager is on vacation till next week...seems to me he is trying to buy time...who else is ordering parts for that week?

That is the exact same thing that happened to me too! The body shop painted my whole bumper blue, then when I saw it I told them it was supposed to be black and they had to fix it. I anticipated this issue right away and I asked what were they going to do, just paint it black on top of the blue? They said yes! I was like, isn't it going to chip and show the blue under? They said no it will be fine. And then they said that was standard practice to do it this way! I was like yeah ok. Well a few weeks later I got the same thing as you! Took it back and they said sorry can't help you with the rock chips, its going to happen. They offered to redo it but that is not going to fix the problem. I said eff it I will just figure it out myself.

So now I am just going to get some black matt spray paint and paint it myself. Putting lots of coats on it. Thought about using PlastiDip spray paint too. I hear it works good for rock chips.

Now what I wonder is what color do the factory Nismo fascias have as plastic? Black or gray?

Wow, sorry to hear. If you go back a couple post's I have a picture of the paint schematic and the codes. You can cross reference them to a paint you want. Beautiful car, I'm digging the subtle Nismo accents...looks great!

So if I've got this right there are two nismo bumpers that should be up for sale for cheap then? But seriously that's some unnecessary BS you are having to go through. They don't need to keep ordering bumpers just mask, sand, primer, respray, apologize for being incompetent offer some kind of amends and end this nightmare.

Your are correct Sir!

$1000

[FOR SALE] P/W Nismo front Bumper 500 miles

The manager and I finally came to an agreement, he gave me the old bumper as a way to help with all the grief I went through. I have to say I am impressed with the customer service even after my long drawn out episode.

So what is the proper way to paint the Nismo bumper? It would seem that ALL of these bumpers will have the same issue. With rock chips showing the gray primer color underneath! I just gave up on mine I will just paint it with Engine Enamel or PlastiDip.

i donno but i think this is typical...they just paint over the main color unless the bumper comes black from the factory and mask off.

anyway good to hear your ordeal is over.

i would've probably removed the bumper after getting it back from the shop and shot it with 7-8 layers of matte automotive grade clearcoat over the black.
