Ridiculous start/stop button question...

I'd settle for a regular key I do think the SRM is useful

when you turn a key type ignition, all it does is rotate the lock so that it pushes a button in the switch... keyless start is just eliminating the key itself (which is a good thing). the keys have been trasmitting to the cars for 20 years now, that's nothing new, why not have keyless?

also of note: higher end cars have not required the operator to hold the key in ignition position (usually position #4 just past "ON") for a while. my step mom's last car was a 2000 BMW 740iL and all you had to do was just tap it into ignition and let go and the car would hold the starter circuit until it had fully started.

i dont get your question...
brake, push button, engine starts
push button, engine turns off
while engine is on, tap twice quickly goes to ACC

ive been driving cars that use keys to start since i was 17 including my last car but ever since i got used to the z, ive been embarassing myself reaching for a nonexistent push start button on my friends' and parents' cars, with the exception of my old car before i sold it cause it was a matter of muscle memory and familiarity if that makes sense

Do not need to press & hold, just depress the brake, press & release, the car will start itself.

This. Im always looking for a start button to push when I get in other cars now, freakin muscle memory! I also find myself with my right hand on the shifter of automatic cars out of habit.

I too find myself doing this in my new Sequoia (standard key ignition) since both my other cars are push button (Z and Jag XF). A push button is just so much more efficient IMO.

Hope your not reaching for a shift lever mounted on the steering column! I drove one of those in high school back in the early 60's!
