I can't help but respect your decision. I'm kinda in the same boat except I won't be getting rid of a car I love...rather, I will be holding back on getting into a Z and that was after having everything set except my signature. I'll probably only have to hold back for a year or two, but I'm confident this will be the right decision in the long run. Since my lady will also be making a boatload more than me, letting me have my toy is the least she can do in exchange for my patience. In the back of my mind I have been hoping for a new RX-7 anyway. Hopefully Mazda sets it in stone in the next couple of years so everything works itself out for me. Meanwhile, I'll just keep stashing the cash away.

Sucks that you have to sell the Z, but it will definitely be worth it in the end. Good luck to both you and your fiance. Let's hope we're both part of the GT-R club in a couple years

looked at the options on a cheap new car and will probably save in the neighborhood of 200-250 on a monthly payment, insurance will be another 100 savings. options right now are a new civic or used something...

I would get something that's used, but not too used if you get what I'm saying. Something reliable and comfortable that is cheap to maintain. If you can do it, you should buy it all in cash.

As an example, my mom bought an 09 Yaris w/ 15k miles for a little under $10k cash last year. She drives it 300 miles a day and doesn't get the oil changed till every 30k miles. It hasn't had a single issue yet and gets like 40 mpg. I've told her to get the oil changed more frequently once she told me she did it every 30k miles. I'm surprised how reliable that car has been though.

I am stuck with my 91 Volvo ( with 370ZGT number plate ! ) as i am also paying for her grad bills too. The volvo costs me nothing to run, dont wash it much, even when i park up at a supermarket i rarely even roll up the windows, nevermind lock it. Only insured for third party and its an easy car to fix since most forums have figured out what are the likely issues and how to fix them.

Buying a used pearl white by auction in Japan next year. Will have to throw on the GT stripe....can get the real GT then in a few more years after that when she finishes school.

Why not try one of the new Focus'? Or if size isnt THAT much of a problem, the new Fiesta?

went car shopping last night around to a couple of places. for the cost of ownership and reliability since this next car will be a keep till the wheels fall off go-for car to rack up mileage with i'm pretty set on a 2011 civic. can't beat the price since the new 2012 civic's come out in april and no one will want the last year's body style for a new car. while we were there we both agreed that when she gets in her job after school that i can get another Z or something along the lines of it so i'm looking forward to that.

cool. i had a 06 civic EX sedan (new) long time ago. i liked it a lot except for its AT. not that it wasn't smooth, just boring as hell to drive.

so hope you get the MT.
