Without chumping the OP, he's gotta take a look at his own situation and make the decision that's right for him and his fam.

If you want to be completely all about the fam, sell the Z and forget the Evo. Get something dull as dishwater, but functional, like a cheap little Civic that'll be easy to maintain, good on gas, has room for kids, etc, etc, yawn, etc. Or get something like a minivan or SUV that's got oodles of room and can be driven through horrid weather.

But if you want to remain an enthusiast who's driving fun cars, stick to the Z. It's not much less practical than the Evo, and you'll lose money on the deal.

Either way, I would start planning that all now with the woman, but I wouldn't make a single, solitary move until that young'n is out, because many things can happen between now and then, and there are many more pressing decisions that will have to be made at that time.

imo buying cars is like going shopping: if you go shopping with a lot people, some of them are going to tell you what you want is not cool, something else is better. had i taken some friends or family members along when i went to the nissan dealer, some of them probably would tell me not to get a 370z

Evo wouldnt be my choice with kids. I'd get a nice Audi A4 or perhaps a A5.

I don't think anything as expensive as an Evo or Audi should even be an option. Children are a wonderful source of unforeseen expenses, and they can be really, really hard on a car. That's why I think that if the OP is serious, he needs a dull, safe, family car that's inexpensive to buy and maintain. If he can keep the Z for himself, then great.

Even then, I think it's way too early to pull the trigger.

that is true. years ago when his children were small, my brother got a volvo suv. within a few months, the interior of that car looked totally used up.

yah, if you care about your car you need to teach little kids how to get in/out of a car correctly. they're innocently dirting the car, not intentionally.

so a couple lessons and with some practice my kids are keeping the interior reasonably clean. especially in my G35C it's very clean....will see how my younger kid does this year.

Used A4's arent all that expensive and they are very safe. I wouldnt feel comfortable with my kids in a small honda or and EVO. And they come in fuax leather option that is bullet proof.

It's a fair point. Safety rating vs. affordability. It's about where your priorities are. A Honda will definitely cost less to repair than an Audi. So will most domestics.

Heavy cars aren't safer. If you think a few hundred pounds of extra metal is going to gently cradle your head as it smashes into the window, think again. i hate hearing that Big=Safe. Yea i wouldn't feel comfortable in a smart car, but there is a balance. but audi=safer than honda because its heavier? i dont think so. A4's are not that big anyway.

getting rid of your Z because the number of your family is acceptable. But if you think the evo is gonna make a good "family" car then i think you should really think again. Evo is a rough car.....a bit too violent and most definitly not a practical family car. I honestly think you should either sell your Z and get a nice SUV, truck, or a sporty AWD sedan. Or.....keep the Z and buy another car that I've mentioned. But not the evo. Im not saying evo is a bad car....just that it doesnt seem too practical for your upcoming family.

why do you need a suv or truck just for family? i dont get this... a lot of folks just assume family requires suv's and minivans when it really doesn't unless you have 3kids or more and can't physically fit kids in child/infant seats in the back.

did you guys see the nissan commercial where the wife tells the husband that she is pregnant and the guy walks out to the driveway and pulls on the hood of his 370z and it morphs into a maxima? i thought the effect was so cool

I like the Evo X a whole lot. You aren't really losing much, honestly.

The Evo is a solid car -- but it is still a Lancer.
