Reason being, my wife and I are now thinking about kids and the 370 would obviously pose problems for that. Also, these north east winters seem to be getting worse by the year and the Evo would seem to be more practical in that department.

That being said I'm still very torn as I love my Z. I was however offered a great deal on a 2011 Evo X GSR and the car definitely has me intrigued. Would you guys say this is a wise move? Also is the Evo comparable performance wise to the Z or is there something else I should be looking at?

Thank you
I've owned 3 Z's since I've been married. I now have 2 Z's in the garage and 3 kids in the house. The minivan is our family car. Obviously, it's not that hard to make it work.

In a bad winter, nothing is more practical than staying home. Idiots are everywhere, so no car is practical. If you're more concerned about performance and power, then practicality shouldn't even be in your mind.

IMHO, the EVO is an ugly box car. To this day, I still don't understand the fascination behind the EVO line. It's not a sports car. It's not really a family car. It's like a mushroom - there's really nothing good about it.

I had a Honda Accord 4D as my first family car. It was fine, but after a while I realized I needed more space for my growing family and for the larger luggage that came with us on vacations. That's why I decided on a minivan.

If you can afford to buy a used family car and have no payments, then that would be the way to go. I have a feeling that you'll be unhappy with the EVO after a couple of years.

your going to be that guy in a few years in the grocery parking lot that walks up to a guy with a nice car and says "i once owned a car like this".....and then you will realize that you never have should traded the Z many years ago......if u didnt care about the car you wouldnt have posted a thread.....time to get on the wifes good side and bring the convo back to the table......keep the Z and start putting money aside for a used 4 door suv for the winters......dont be that guy in the parking lot

I fought the battle as well but I was looking at the STi.

I love Subarus, I've owned one before and it was a fantastic car... fast, roomy, well build and very reliable. If I ever get rid of the Z it would be for one of them. Although I love my Z to death, if someone offered me the right deal I probably would trade.

Not because there is anything wrong with my Z, but I think that I would benefit more from the extra room in the STi or an EVO.

But, with that said... I'm going to drive my Z right now and my GF is about to buy a new 4dr car which WILL have enough room for the kids.

:-)

Buy a Honda odyssey and keep the Z. That's what we have and we have 4 kids. When we buy groceries or go out as a family the van is the best! The Z is for me and the wifey when we have our date nights.

Mainly the Z is for my enjoyment lol!

Default buy a daily beater instead, keep the 370z

If I were you and I plan on being there one day, I would keep the 370z for myself and buy a cash suv / van for the wifey. Having no payments on the family vehicle and also not having some nice sports car that fits everyone, only to get crayoned and messed up. Family guys at work that seem to have no possession of their own drill me for buying a sports car even as I yet to have a family of my own. Live a little for yourself, dont buy an expensive car for the family to destroy.

Not this again.. we need to make one of these threads a sticky....

Here are your options,
1. use your girls ride for baby transport.
2. buy a 2nd beater car.
3. trade in your car and take it in the a$$ without lube
4. Privet sell your car and buy another ride and take it in the A$$ with lube
5. If you're broke and now have to pay for a baby and your girl now that she doesnt work anymore and has no income , you better sell the Z and buy something with cash to avoid payments.

Good point. Is selling the Z for money or practicality? If you're planning on having a kid, you should have enough extra cash lying around to pay cash for a used family car.

does your girl have a car/truck?

I would try and pick up an older AWD Subaru and keep the Z.

First choice is to get a beater or if you have to have back seats, nothing can touch the new 5.0 for price.
