Of course, suppose OP had not swereved because OP was scared of hurting his car and some jackass...and his 2 year-old in the back seat who had no choice in the matter...were killed. Or maybe just the kid died. Who knows? Best to take the road with less unforseen consequences. I am not saying "sacrifice yourself" or any such nonsense, I am just saying cars are cheap compared to how well you sleep at night.
You never know what is going on in another vehicle. I think OP did the right thing and am glad they are OK and the car was totalled. You don't WANT a sports car with a branded title and a major accident. It may never be right again--and even if it is--resale is gone. What happened, happened. Insurance doesn't go up on amount of damage, but rather number of incidents. At least, that is USAA's policy. I presume others are similar. Glad you are okay!
