What I don't get is why this asshat was doing 80 mph on the right lane. If you're going to go all out, do so on the left most lane.

That's why I'm in favor of surveillance cameras. Every time I get on the free way, so jerk pulls something like this that puts everyone in danger.

You did the right thing in avoiding the hit.

Glad to hear you're alright.

Would you consider getting a new BMW 1M series? Supposedly it offers M3 performance at a fraction of the cost.

tbh, it would have been a piss poor decision to get hit by another car going at 80 mph. who knows what sort of injury that might have caused, whiplash, back problems etc etc. they say if u have some sort of back injury, no matter what kinda therapy or w.e u go to u never get healed to 100%. better to get out of the way pay the premium and either fix or total ur ride.

A hit at 80 MPH is going to be a hard hit. I understand about "the other guys fault" premise but you are uninjured. We have insurance, for just this sort of thing. I know how maddening this must feel too, I hope you get through this quickly.

I agree with that but the Z isn't a slow car. Sure, it depends on how far away the guy was when OP saw him but how long does it take the Z to go from 50 to 80 mph? What about 30 to 80? Lots of variables here but I would have down shifted into full throttle and got out of the way. Anyway, like I said, lots of variables. :|

That's the trouble... lots of variables. Plus if the guy is already at speed it still takes a bit of time to get up to his speed and accelerate away from danger. I'm sure in this case the closing vehicle was pretty close and the OP felt like the only way to avoid an impact with that car was just to get out of the lane.

Now if he was driving a five point o--

Really, though, I think the OP made the best heat-of-the-moment decision he could and it looks like the situation has been resolved for the best with the car being totalled so he doesn't have to drive around in a Z that was pieced back together. So now the question is... what's next? Another Z or something else.
