The GTR is a beast. One fine automobile. I know it's going to be ridiculously fun at 10/10ths on a race track, but around town you've got to drive it at 3-4/10ths to keep things legal.

thanks Pat. It's not whether its cheaper or not. It's the FUN that I'm after.

well i can understand that, i know a while ago you were talking about an S5 or something along those lines because the GTR felt numb... considered a 2012 since they say it feels much better to drive? if so, blue? :stirthepot:

Gtr just needs more cowbell:rofl2:

After reading through this thread, I am coming off my high desire for a GTR. I am more about fun driving with very occasional track time. I think I will hold on to my Z for a good while.

And M4A1 - FAIL on your ultimate car dream. Go for the F430 Scuderia!!!

No way man. The 550/575 is my favorite "modern" Ferrari. Plus, it's not even close to my ultimate dream car. It's just the one Ferrari I really want right now.

I'd take a 1984 288 GTO over the 575, though. :yum:

I was thinking about that. But I can honestly say I gave the GTR a fair chance. It's just not for me. I love the car for what it is, but I need more "driving"...even if it means at a cost of less performance.

spearfish25 12-01-2010 10:14 AM

100% would get the S5 coupe with a 6MT over the Z. If I had 60k to spend at the time of getting my car, I'd be driving the S5 instead.

S5 is nice. My boss is about to pick one up for his company car.

The S5 is like the GTR in a way...AWD, 4 seater, 2 door sports coupe, etc. Too similar, therefore feels like a direct downgrade from a GTR. Even though it's manual, it's not RWD. If I'm going to get rid of the GTR, I'm going all the way with a RWD 6MT 2-seater. If it's too close feature-wise to the GTR, I may just regret getting rid of it.

I also hate how the moonroof doesn't open on the A5/S5. Might as well give me a CF roof instead.

kenchan 12-01-2010 10:24 AM

GTR's are too fast, too stable, and too automatic for most streets imho. hense why i did not get one. at minimum it needs a 6MT gearbox for street drivers like me.

i think even the 370Z's are a tad too powerful at times for the streets to really have fun in. but thankfully the Z's dont rev very clean up high so i like to keep the rpm's below 6k for most driving. :)

We should all switch to Miatas. They have better doors anyways. :icon17:

ClemsonWill 12-01-2010 10:26 AM

In a different way I understand what you are saying about a fun car for the street. I was really nervous about coming from an S2000 to the 370Z. With the S2000 I really enjoyed winding through the gears and not having to worry about approaching dangerous speeds for the street. In the end I'm very happy. I think the Z is a perfect match for a fun streetable sports car.

Stangs and Z's are about the limit for street driving great performance/muscle/sport cars for the street IMO; the Stang being on the performance-muscle end of the spectrum and the Z on the performance/sport end, but both great. The next step up (GT500, Z06, GTR) are too fast to realy enjoy on the street.

But they are hot though.

And my fav Ferrari of all time is the Scuderia (like I have ever driven one though... I FAIL).

ProfessorDave 12-01-2010 10:33 AM

Did someone mention Miata?!?

Yep. I love'd being able to mash the throttle and bang through the gears on the street without really worry about going too fast or getting into trouble. :icon17:

My G20 tops out at 117mph. That is a felony.
I think 145hp is too much for the street.

I lust for a VW van (seriously, I do). That way I cannot do anything illegal.

In all honestly, it's not about top speed, it's about how fast you get to the speed you want to get to, how it handles, and how fun it is to get there. For me, that means a true manual transmission and well over 300rwhp. Otherwise it's just boring and relegated to DD status. The 370Z I drove felt great, definitely not too much for the street. I passed because it wasn't enough to make me smile in a week or two and I knew the rush of it being nice and all would wear off quickly without more grunt.

For me I feel like 400-500 whp is the sweet spot for a street driven car.

98intrigue 12-01-2010 10:47 AM

I, as well as many others, loved what you did with your previous Z. I'm excited to see what you have in store for the new Z...

Nitrouz 12-01-2010 11:18 AM

Just got a call from the dealership...they can't locate any 2010 black 370z's in the country that is fully loaded to the specs I want. Only ones without Nav.

I'm a lost bat without Nav. I know I can easily go aftermarket but I like perfect fitment and feel of OEM...

Having them check on blue and gunmetal inventory now. I save $4k if I do 2010 instead of 2011...

Why not? Plenty of SR20DET swaps. I might consider one if my transmission/engine ever take a dump in this one.

I can't imagine that being true...in the entire country? Have you tried looking for Black Cherry?

Keep in mind I'm in Canada...lol...

The Nismo is coming to Canada in February 2011.....for you US guys, is it worth it for the wait and the extra $10k?

if you are gonna put all that money into modding the car, i dont see the point in starting with a nismo. i think you should go Touring/sport/nav so you get all the creature comforts and with the TT kit you'll have a beast of a car to boot.

I tried to search and read about the differences with the Nismo... slight power bump (insignificant), kit, suspension, exhaust, wheels, interior. Is there anything else I'm missing? I read somewhere it doesn't have nav or leather or heated seats?

and I may have to skip NAV if I want a 2010 black here in Canada... I originally wanted a 40th anniversary but it's all gone.

got it dead on the money.

Now factor in your mods and see what getting the nismo gets you
slight power bump -> Twin Turbo Kit
Suspension -> coilovers (i presume)
exhaust youd replace when going TT
wheels judging by the fact that you went with vokls on your GTR, you seem like an aftermarket wheel kind of guy
so your paying the premium for a spartan interior and a body kit. i love the body kit. but you seem to have a lot of experience in the aftermarket, i'm sure you could source a nismo body kit.
