Default HELP, grinding noise while turning.

My car is 2009 6MT and about 24000km. I noticed that every morning (when the car was cold) I make a right turn I hear this grinding (metal) noise. (no grinding sound when going straight ) The noise seems to be consistent with the speed (i.e. if my speed is fast then the grinding noise is fast). but when the car warmed up it stopped making the noise.but if i make a hard right turn i could hear the noise sometimes even the car warmed. my guess would be maybe wheel bearings ,cv shafts and or brake pads. if the problem is 1 of these, could my car be covered by warranty??? any info on what this might be? thanks.

Hi Shawn84

I have a similar problem when turning with a full lock and only when cold and just starting from my drive , My car is only 8 weeks old with 1400 miles done, it has been back to the dealer and they cheaked it out but said no problem with the steering but said it may be the rubber skirt along the bottom catching on the road but cheaked this and it was clear so not sure, even this morning it did it again ??? The only thing i hope it may be is the tyres as the car seems to jump and creak not so much a grinding noise but will get it looked at again also the car seems to wander a bit on bumpy roads but it may be the wide tyres.

If i was you i would get it looked at soon as pos..... hope this helps Brian.

The tires do make a kind of a creaking noise at full lock. My Z only has 2k miles and it does this. Once the tires get warm they are softer so it make sense that they would make less noise.

OP: I hear this grinding (metal) noise.

But would tires make a metallic sound?

Summer tires is my guess. Have a search - you'll find a thread or two on it.

Are you getting the noise when making a full turn or are you getting it at any degree of turn?

It's hard to distinguish between each persons perception of a sound. Although i would think grinding metal would be pretty distinct. Take it back to the dealership and replicate the problem with a tech in the car. If they say it is normal then test drive a new Z to compare.
