Makes a difference. My Hankooks are so much more quieter than the Yokohamas

Actually Extreme Contact DWS---doesn't mean a lot to me technically, but sure worked wonders in vastly reducting road noise in the cabin. I've loved my car ever since.

It helped, but the car is still noisy.

now I'm ordering materials to coat the inside of the doors. I will see if that helps.

the guys that make GT Mat are offering free samples (10 ft square) of there product to members. you will need more like 30 to really get after the hatch and (I'm guessing) 20 or so for the doors (some is wasted when you trim the sheets to fit your panel shapes.)

Here is a photo of my Hatch as i was just getting started putting down the mat. I spoke with my dealer service manager and he tols me how to get all the trim out. (it is easy)

There is NO sound dampening in the doors..NONE at all..cover the inside of the doors and get some good quiet tires and the car will be totally different..

I dynamatted the doors & trunk this past weekend by myself. Took about 6 hours total and costed $160 for dynamat & tools. Bought the 7 sheet pack from Amazon, that's more than enough.

It does reduce cabin noise by about 10 - 15% (yes, scientific personal ear reading, lol). I was hoping for a little more but overall happy with the time & money invested in this project. Stereo sounds better and gravel/rain hitting tire wells is reduced by more than the numbers listed above.

I agree with many previous posters on this thread, stock tires are the main culprit for the road noise. However, no plans to change them out until they wear down.

I'm adding damplifier pro to my hatch and second skin spectrum over that, and more spectrum on the outside to whatever areas i can get to, probably just the wheel wells and under where the exhaust is. Then adding a layer of luxury liner pro on top of all of that and some dense foam into all the nooks and crannies that i can get to. and then a layer of foam just right under the top layer of carpet in the hatch.. I'm working on it should be done in about 2-3 weeks when i have time.. i'll post back on how my perception in sound noise is. I hope it makes a good improvement, the little rocks in a can noise back there is driving me crazy.

Nice job. I simply used a product called Frost King from Lowes, added a insulated light blanket wrapped around where the spare was( took it out) and replaced the tires with Hankooks.Absoltely satisfied. Quiet.

I had a feeling the main culprit was the tires.

I dread the day I have to change them out though (for the price), but I'm sure I'll be happily surprised.

My dealer old me to ONLY buy the tires the Z came with. I usually get my tires at Sears because they give credit for wear and tear, for example if my 100,000 mile tires last for 20,000 miles then I get 80% off my replacement tire. If they last for 50,000 miles then I get half off. Makes a huge difference at the end of the day.

Default cabin noise tire choice

I found switching from all-season to summer takes a lot of whine and drone away.
pilot super sport .. 285/245mm ~ $1400, .. that nitro fill works for years, btw... 1 yr 9 mo out, temps
down to 47F mornings, no worries about stopping for lbs of air.

btw2, wanted to try upgrade to potenza's; Bridgestone D17 but Niss dealer had it not.
Shouldn't be too wedded to dealer for everything.

A bit of 'standard' door & hatch insulation can't be wrong, Zs have some power, for
price and competitiveness should try for 400 hp range imo .. but sound is econo-box level.

Would need nismo 350hp to make up for hundred lbs of sound insulation, though if you
don't spend much time above 4000 rpm, you probably don't need to worry about it.

Dynamat is overpriced. There are other products that do the same for much, much less. Look for Raamat for one option.
