If you put the car in gear and hold the clutch you can rev higher, but you shouldn't rev an unloaded engine that high. That's why the limiter is there...

If you put the car in gear and hold the clutch you can rev higher, but you shouldn't rev an unloaded engine that high. That's why the limiter is there... to prevent you from breaking everything.
